Why should you consider Tanzania School Expedition with Projects Abroad for
your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes which are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised, we realise that each school has its own goals and interests, the students their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary which reflects their values and which allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.

The group will work on renovation and improvement projects, Projects Abroad established the program for Maasai children nearly 10 years ago and we are constantly striving to make it a better learning and physical environment for the children.
Students will also engage the local children in educational and fun activities. They can help in the classroom with small groups and one-to-one help as well as organising sports or creative activities. Who are Projects Abroad?
This is a three week programme which will challenge, educate and inspire students in a country renowned around the world for its incredible wildlife, the vibrancy of its indigenous culture and stunning landscapes.
The itinerary takes in numerous parts of the north of Tanzania with varied activities which will engage the students with the people, its culture and the outdoors while undertaking service projects which give back to the community and from which the students will learn many new skills and perspectives.
The activities include:
Service – several years ago, Projects Abroad established a school which serves the Maasai community on the edge of Arusha. We built it and now staff it but there is much development do in order to reach our goals.
The group will take on a renovation project which may be building improvements or extensions, creating outdoor activity spaces and gardens. This is challenging work in a warm climate which will develop great team camaraderie and a sense of pride and achievement in the finished article.
This aspect of the placement will take the students into the traditional lands of the Maasai where government services are sparse and the school has proved a focal point for the community and a new opportunity for the young people of the community , the work the group does here is a huge boost for the setting and insightful and rewarding for the students.
The group will also engage with the local students in the classroom, assisting small groups and individuals with literacy and numeracy projects (class ratios are high) and also in sports or creative activities.
Projects Abroad works towards UN Sustainable Development Goals in its programmes and these principles will shape the work the group undertakes.
Adventure – Tanzania has some of the most highly regarded safari in the world and students will see the best of this on the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Crater which has wildlife populations almost caught in time.
Students will see incredible sights from great herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope as well as elephants and numerous predators such as lions, cheetah and hyena. Close up encounters with some of the most charismatic animals in the world is an unforgettable experience.
The programme then takes an even more adventurous step as the group embarks on a three day trek through the Southern Pare mountains. They will set up camp, cook and sleep under the stars (with the protection of experienced bushpeople) enjoying huge skies with the best stargazing imaginable and during daylight views across the vast plains.
This programme really shows the students great outdoors, a memorable adventure.
This is a hugely varied programme and a great challenge for any student. It offers a great insight into the country and teaches the students inter-cultural competence, the ability to be a considerate and curious traveller, increased self confidence, resilience and perspective.
Projects Abroad staff will accompany the group at all times and manage daily debriefing sessions to help students reflect on and absorb the day’s events.
