It's a cliche we know but we believe Iceland is a very inspiring venue. The diverse and breath-taking landscapes enable a variety of studies that can include tectonics, volcanoes, geysers, glaciers, coasts, thunderous waterfalls, energy and tourism.
Whatever the emphasis of your trip we can tailor an itinerary for you and include adventures such as lava caving, walking on a glacier, a boat trip on a pro glacial lake or a visit to Heimaey - where the ground is still warm from this newly formed island - to enhance your visit.
An itinerary that includes the most popular destinations is included as a guide; it is easily adjusted to suit your group and duration is flexible. The only problem with Iceland is that there is so much to see - but then all the more reason to return!

Example Itineraries for our 2026 trips
Discover Iceland - example 4 day school tour.
On the first day, students will arrive in Iceland and have the opportunity to relax and acclimatise by visiting the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa renowned for its mineral rich waters and unique geological features. Following this, your group will transfer to the accommodation, settling in and preparing for the adventure ahead.
The second day will be dedicated to the Golden Circle, which is a popular route that offers a fascinating insight into Iceland's geological processes. The tour begins at Thingvellir National Park, where students can observe the rift valley formed by the diverging North American and European tectonic plates, providing a clear example of the plate tectonics you have learned in class, in action. Next, the group will visit the geothermal area around Geysir, where geothermal activity causes periodic eruptions of hot water and steam, illustrating volcanic processes. The day concludes at Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, where students can witness the power of glacial melt water carving through rock.
On the third day, the focus shifts to Iceland's dramatic south coast. The guided tour will take students east of Reykjavik to see iconic waterfalls such as Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, both of which demonstrate the erosive power of water over geological time. The visit to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano visitor centre will teach them about volcanic activity and its impact on the landscape, especially considering the eruption that has disrupted air travel across Europe in recent times. Students will also visit the nearby Solheimajokull glacier, where they can observe glacial ice and learn about glacial movement and melting. The day may include a glacier walk, providing experience of glacial geology and the processes of ice erosion. The black sands and volcanic rocks of Reynisfjara beach will further illustrate volcanic deposition and coastal geological processes.
On the fourth day, students will enjoy a city tour of Reykjavik, exploring the capital's distinctive architecture and geological features. There may be some free time for souvenir shopping before the group returns to the UK. Depending on flight schedules, it might also be possible to visit a geothermal power station, offering an understanding of Iceland's sustainable energy sources and the geological conditions that make geothermal energy possible.
For those interested in extending their learning, an extra day could be spent visiting the Glacial Lagoon at Skaftafell National Park near Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier. This trip shows how glaciers shape landscapes through erosion and deposition, with the option to take a boat trip on a lake to see the stunning glacial valleys and icebergs up close.
Another optional day involves exploring Iceland's volcanic geology through a guided lava caving expedition. Students will have the chance to enter and examine a lava tube, gaining a firsthand understanding of volcanic processes, lava flow formation, and underground geological features.
Another option would be a visit to Heimaey, the largest of the Westman Islands, where students can take a boat trip to explore the volcanic island and visit the Eldfell volcano. This trip provides insights into volcanic island formation, volcanic hazards, and the ongoing geological activity that shapes this unique landscape.
