Famous for it's technology, Japan has been at the forefront of the motor vehicles and electronics industries for decades. History students can discover everything from Shogun Emperors to the devastation of the Second World War in Hiroshima.

Japan’s unique culture is linked to its language and tradition, in places like the ancient temples of Kyoto, students can learn about religion, sushi or tea ceremonies. Geography students have plenty to explore here too; from volcanic landscapes to dense urban centres.

Tokyo City Tour

Take in the breathtaking views from Tokyo Sky Tree, enjoy Otomesando and Harajuku, famous areas with luxury shops, extreme fashion and amazing architecture. Head to the Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation or try a Sushi Making Experience. there's so much to do in this amazing city.

Mount Fuji

See the famous Mount Fuji during a stop at its 5th Station, then enjoy boat cruise on Lake Ashi before touring Mount Komagatake’s ropeway and summit, with stunning views of Hakone National Park.

Kyoto

A truly beautiful city, Kyoto is filled with temples and stunning examples of Japanese architecture and botanical gardens. Nijo Castle, peaceful Kiyomizu Temple and Ryoanji Temple are just a few examples of this city's jaw-dropping attractions.

Nara

the site of Japan’s first permanent capital is an experience students won't forget. The Todaiji Temple houses Japan’s largest bronze Buddha and Nara Deer Park is home to hundreds of freely roaming deer.

Hiroshima

Home to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, also know as the Atomic Bomb Dome, this moving location is part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Click to read full text On an Equity group tour of Japan, if you're looking for excursions specifically focused on languages, we would suggest a good mix of excursions that will take you around the city and explore the region's past. As you go, we'll be sure to take you to the local markets, shopping areas, cafes, restaurants, and squares so that you can practice your language skills.

Whether it's ordering food, buying souvenirs, asking for directions, or simply engaging with the public, immersing yourself in the local language is the perfect way to learn. Just be sure to let us know what excursions you'd like to visit and we can work to create a bespoke itinerary for your trip.

For those studying human geography, you'll have plenty of opportunities to discuss urban planning in a rugged landscape, the push and pull factors that are driving people toward the cities, and the issues facing the country from an aging population, a low birth rate, and low immigration figures.

For those focussed on physical geography, you'll find yourself in one of the best-prepared countries for dealing with geohazards, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, typhoons, and landslides. While visiting a variety of significant sites, you can learn how plate boundaries here have created this beautiful island chain, as well as the numerous hazards that the country has learned to manage.
