'YHA Ironbridge Coalport' with YHA for Residential School Trips and Educational Visits?
We proudly offer two sites in Ironbridge, YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale and YHA Ironbridge Coalport, each located within Grade II listed buildings and offering amazing bases for unforgettable learning experiences.
YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale was established in 1853 by the Coalbrookdale Company as a literary and scientific institute and now offers comfortable, groups’ only accommodation. Facilities include74 beds in mostly ensuite rooms, a spacious lounge and an outdoor study area. We offer Primary school groups flexible breaks where schools can lead their own activities, sign up to our YHA delivered education packages, or mix and match by adding YHA activities as a bolt-on to a self-led stay.
YHA Ironbridge Coalport is the original factory building of the Coalport China Works, offering 83 beds, a large classroom, small study room, a lounge and a spacious dining room. It occupies the oldest surviving Coalport china works building in the factory. Packed with original features and facilities including 21 rooms, a large classroom, smaller study room, a lounge and a spacious dining room, this hostel makes an excellent base for exploring the area.
There are plenty of opportunities for schools to link their visit to the National Curriculum, choose from ten award-winning museums within the Ironbridge Gorge that are littered with industrial archaeology and are ideal for learning about the industry. For outdoor exploration take to the many pathways that take you along the canal and old railway lines to the iconic Iron Bridge. The bridge itself is ideal for admiring or sketching or an amazing game of pooh sticks!
Nearby the award winning Blists Hill Victorian town brings history to life through the sights, smells and tastes of a real working town. Plus Victorian characters are there including the candle maker, baker, grocer and policeman to help give a true insight into life one hundred years ago. Three miles away at Coalbookdale students can find out more about three generations of Quakers called Abraham Darby who perfected the art of mass production of iron and guilt the world famous bridge.

What activities are available during group visits?
Discovery Package – Available from YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale, our discovery packages allows teachers to offer a flexible programme of fun and challenging activities. Activities available include archery, orienteering, shelter building, team challenges, archaeological dig, local tourist attractions and let’s get cooking.
In the local area you will also find ten award-winning museums including the China Works Museum, Jackfield Tile museum, and the Museum of iron , or rocket back in time to the recreated Victorian town of Blisss Hill, then, last but by no means least, stroll in Victorian footsteps to the famous Iron Bridge itself and marvel at its strength and beauty.
What size groups do you cater for?
YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale offers 74 beds and YHA Ironbridge Coalport has 82 beds, meaning we easily accommodate groups of most sizes.
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
At YHA Ironbridge we strive to cater for everybody. At YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale we have two accessible bedrooms on the ground floor, with accessible en-suite bathrooms. We also have step-free access, an accessible reception desk, a portable induction loop, vibrating pillow alarm, a platform lift to the entrance, and en-suite rooms. At YHA Ironbridge Coalport we have two accessible bedrooms on the ground floor with an accessible bathroom in the corridor nearby. We also have step free access into the hostel, a portable induction loop, vibrating pillow alarm, ground floor bedrooms, en-suite bedrooms, and a platform lift between the lower ground and ground floors.
