trip icon Overlooked by the Iron Age fort on Mam Tor and surrounded by the stunning Edale Valley, YHA Edale Activity Centre is a grand old country house set on the southern flanks of Kinder Scout. Prepare to see magnificent views when you stay in one of the highest residences in the Peak District.

This long established Activity Centre is the ideal place to test your skills at outdoor challenges including abseiling, caving, canoeing, archery, and the high ropes courses with the gentle guidance of our experienced instructors, We ensure that every aspect of our provision is carefully designed to enhance a group’s learning potential and the overall quality of the experience. Groups in education, regardless of age, ability or experience will benefit from the fact that all of our activity programmes are bespoke and devised in collaboration with the group leaders. Whatever fully inclusive package is chosen, whether Action Adventure or Adventure bolt-on the specifics of activity, venue, content and style are constantly adjusted to optimise every learning opportunity – our returning groups know that it is this attention to detail that makes every experience at Edale so much more memorable and significant

We have everything you need to keep your group entertained including space to explore, a well-equipped classroom that’s ideal for study and team building, a games room, delicious catering served in our large dining room, and breathtaking views.

What activities are available during educational visits in 2026?

Action adventure package – Great adventures in the outdoors don’t come much better than this! Our packages have been created to make the very best of the natural world around us and as a result the outcomes are really taken up a level. Choose from caving, weaselling, our high ropes course, abseiling, canoeing, raft building, leap of faith or our thrilling night hike.

Multi-activity package - Full of challenges for the brain and body our multi-activity packages are designed to engage participants through practical PE based activity. This package offers a mixture of adventurous and on-site activities that make the most of the great outdoors and the hostel locality.

YHA bolt-on - These activities are perfect for teachers to add on as an 'extra' particularly for self-led groups. The benefit of having hostel grounds is that we can offer space to lead activities without you needing to travel anywhere. Activities include: team challenges, shelter building, archery, guided walk, fire lighting & Go create

What size groups do we cater for?

YHA Edale has 157 beds, so we are able to welcome groups of all sizes.

On-site classroom facilities?

Yes We do have the ability to provide a classroom-like environment. You can tell us your group size and any specific requirements in the form below.

Yes, and we are also committed to ensuring we meet stringent health and safety standards - please contact us if you need any further details

Access for visitors with disabilities

At YHA Edale Activity Centre we strive to cater for everybody in both the activities and the accommodation that we provide. We have four accessible bedrooms on the ground floor. Three have en-suite accessible bathrooms and the other has an accessible bathroom in the corridor nearby. We also have step-free access into the main building, a portable induction loop, and flashing fire alarms in the accessible bathrooms.

Anything else?

YHA Edale Activity Centre has been awarded the Quality Badge by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.
