Programme: Living things and their habitats
A unique course of Arts activities linked to Living things and their habitats and Under the sea.
Home to native Red Squirrels, as well as various other wildlife, the beautiful Conway Centre, Anglesey is perfect for learning about living things in their habitat. Based close to water, this visit enables students to take part in various water activities, to not only learn but also build self-confidence and try new activities.
Our aim is to foster a sense of achievement where as well as learning about the topic we inspire individuals, empower minds, and define futures through The Arts and develop young people to achieve their potential, introducing them to potential lifelong interest in Art, Drama and Music.
The aim is to help equip young people with the physical and mental skills to survive in the natural modern world. Each session aims to encourage young people to embrace nature, whilst cooperating and communicating with others. During the session groups may be challenged to make a shelter suitable to protect from different elements as well as prepare and light a fire suitable to make a hot drink or cook bread on it. Tutors will always aim to progress the skills the pupils come with, and where suitable give responsibility of using wood craft knives to aid their fire making. If schools have been involved with forest schools, then this is a brilliant activity to develop and challenge the skills they have in a new environment.
In the natural surroundings we use areas of the woodland to test survival skills and learn how to live using only the bare essentials. We have certain areas dedicated to bush craft and survival which allows for the woodland to be sustainably maintained.
All watersports courses have access to the Menai Strait via our private dock, providing a sheltered area for introductory sessions before venturing out into the ‘swellies’.
The varied conditions found on the Strait make it suitable for all levels of students from beginner to expert.

"We have taken Year 6 children on residentials for the past 12 years and can honestly say we have never been to a better place. The instructors were incredibly patient and pushed the children to achieve things they never thought they could. The accomodation was perfect for staff and children and the food provided was very nice. The range of activities on offer ensured there was something for everyone. "

"I have been coming to Conway with different schools for the last 9 years. Having visited most other providers within a 50 mile radius, I can honestly say that Conway is the best residential outdoor activity experience I have ever had. The quality and variety of activities coupled with highly experienced, caring and nuturing instructors and staff means that our children grow and develop in ways that is not possible in the classroom. I cannot recommendly the centre highly enough and look forward to returning for many, many years!"
★★★★★
"We have been coming for a Y5 outdoor and adventurous residential visit since the school opened in 2004. I booked the trip before ordering tables, books or recruiting teachers - it is such an essential part of the school's calendar.
The September trip marks pupil's induction into upper Key Stage 2. Teaching is outstanding, resulting in pupils' independence, listening and following instructions practically, collaboration, respect for one another and logical thinking all are enhanced and retained back in school - in and outside the classroom. The program has exceptionally high standards and aims to provide students with the best possible outcomes to help enrich their portfolios of work. For both staff and students it has proved an enduring and invaluable experience and one the I look forward to attending every year. tamzin harris"

"I've been taking GCSE and A Level Art students to the centre for ten years. The Art courses are very intensive and student outcomes add real value to individual coursework portfolios. To tell you the truth I keep taking groups because it's my best CPD training and has had a significant impacted on my own knowledge and practise. The self contained centre has everything you need for a complete and fulfilling residential experience, plus it's set in the picturesque landscape of the Menai Straits."
★★★★★
"I have worked with the Conway Centre for 17 years taking children from two schools. The quality of the residential experience for the children is excellent. The facilities, activities and staff are consistently at a high level, ensuring that every child has a memorable and valuable experience."
