Why
book 'YHA Langdale' with YHA for Residential School Trips and Educational Visits?
YHA Langdale is situated in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside between Elterwater and Grasmere, and boasts stunning views down to Lake Windermere and Bowness. This is a huge hostel with a National Trust arboretum on the doorstep, and makes any group visit feel magical.
The hostel is the centrepiece of the historic High Close Estate which includes sixteen acres of National Trust arboretum, with the secluded and beautiful Low Wood and Loughrigg Terrace on the doorstep - all just waiting to be explored.
The area is brilliant for school trip activities including climbing, scrambling and kayaking and many others with Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll all nearby. In addition to adventurous activities, YHA Langdale can also provide YHA delivered activities including archery, bush craft, shelter building team games and problem solving, as well as exploring the industrial heritage of the Langdale valley.
Keep energy levels high and tummies full with our delicious group catering; breakfast, packed lunches and home-cooked evening meals are all available from the hostel.

What activities are available during group visits?
Discovery Package - Our discovery packages allows teachers to offer a flexible programme of fun and challenging activities. Activities available include archery, orienteering, shelter building, team challenges, guided walks, navigation kikes and let’s get cooking.
Multi-Activity Package - Full of challenges for the brain and body our multi-activity packages are designed to engage participants through practical PE based activity. This package offers a mixture of adventurous and on-site activities that make the most of the great outdoors and the hostel locality.
YHA Bolt-on - These activities are perfect for teachers to add on as an 'extra' particularly for self-led groups. The benefit of having hostel grounds is that we can offer space to lead activities without you needing to travel anywhere. Activities include: team challenges, shelter building, archery, guided walk, fire lighting & Go create.
Alex Rider packages - We’ve joined forces with Walker Books and author Anthony Horowitz to create unique action-filled YHA Alex Rider adventure packages. This pioneering programme has two adrenaline-fuelled missions, each pupil will create their very own spy name and immerse themselves in the Alex Rider world. Both packages build lifelong skills centred around team building and outdoor pursuits.
Connecting to nature package - Pupils get the chance to combine nature-based activities with ways to develop mindfulness skills in the great outdoors. Days will be filled with activities such as finding minibeasts, fire-lighting, pond-dipping, scavenger hunts, environmental art and shelter-building. Evenings will be spent around the campfire, toasting marshmallows, telling stories and singing songs under a starlit sky.
