Our Key Stage 1 workshop transforms your school hall into Scutari Hospital during the Crimean War. Your children help Florence prepare to travel, then serve as both nurses and patients at the hospital.As they work, your children will learn about Florence's life and why she became a nurse. The children can support Florence by making hospital supplies and items for 'fundraising'. These may include candle holders, pill boxes, lockets and more.

What activities are available during this school workshop?
During the morning of our Florence Nightingale workshop, we provide free-flow activities the children explore at their own pace. The workstations represent crafts that help support Florence. They may include:
• Candle holders
• Pill boxes
• Uniform brassards
• Diaries
• Lockets
• Replica Crimean medals
• Cut out and dress dolls
• Greeting cards
Once Florence arrives at Scutari, the children will discover the luggage has become jumbled. They must investigate to determine what belongs to whom using clues in the cases. The children will then role play as nurses and patients within Scutari Hospital.

Significant Individuals from History Workshop
Meet 'the Lady with the Lamp' herself! Children will learn about Florence Nightingale's life and why she became a nurse. They will also learn about Scutari Hospital during the Crimean War and the improvements she made there. They can explore Victorian artefacts while using drama and role play to help Florence change nursing practice. They will gain an understanding of the impact she had on hospital design, the training of nurses and patient care.
What size groups do we cater for?
We can work with two classes (up to 60 children) at one time, provided the school hall is large enough.
