The Blackpool Tower Eye School Trip

Merlin Entertainments

location icon Blackpool Lancashire FY1 4BJ

North West Lancashire

trip icon The Blackpool Tower Eye works closely with schools to develop information that engages and inspires young people and is relevant to the educational curriculum.

Pre and post visit lesson plans are provided (head to our website to download now) covering Geography and Art & Design subjects, including topics such as features of a landscape and local landmarks.

Our school programme is perfect for educating pupils in a fun and engaging way. On top of being extremely enjoyable for the pupils, the attraction creates the ideal learning environment for learning relating to landscapes and architecture. The programme has been designed to support several core elements of the National Curriculum.

Included in the trip is a visit to the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom if it is open on the day.

The Ballroom offers a historical experience, providing opportunities to learn all about the history of the Ballroom alongside local and national history.

What activities are available during educational visits?

A visit to The Blackpool Tower Eye is accompanied by lesson plans for teachers to use in the classroom before and after their visit. These outline the subjects and topics covered at the attraction and curriculum objectives. As well as suggesting pre-visit topics of discussion, the lesson plans also provide different learning activities that engage pupils with each attraction.

The Blackpool Tower Eye and Ballroom also have their own downloadable worksheets which use a variety of techniques to engage the learning of the pupils. These include a combination of writing and drawing activities.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

English School Trip

Vocabulary grammar and punctuation Creative writing

The Blackpool Tower Circus worksheet encourages pupils consider their sensory experience using interesting vocabulary to describe it. Included in the post trip teaching materials is various tasks relating to descriptive writing. These include a diary entry from the perspective of Mooky the clown, and a storyboard showing the development of the circus from its opening to incorporate some historical elements into the pupil's learning. Finally, pupils will use the senses they recorded whilst inside the circus to create a poem or piece of prose inspired by the circus.

The Circus offers pupils the opportunity to extend their vocabulary for descriptive writing and write sensory descriptions which can later be used for creative writing.
