If you choose a Viking focus, The morning workshop focuses on making and role play. The pupils will be met by the Jarl or Lord of the village, who will guide them around the village. After a short introduction the children will engage in a series of activities and role play that will immerse them in history. While working, the pupils will also be spreading news and asking questions to learn more about Alfred's Englalond. The pupils will support Guthrum and his attempt to conquer Wessex.
Making activities include: Weaving and lucets, Potters, Candle making, Ink making and writing, Medieval illuminating, Making a penannular brooch, Rune stone making, Making a mould for metal working and Wise woman (doctors)
For the afternoon session we will leap forward one thousand two hundred years and excavate the settlement with an archeology activity and learn more about early-medieval Britain.
