School Workshops - Tech4Fun

Home / School Workshops

Please note: Outreach Workshops only - We visit your school! We can visit schools in All UK Regions

Tech4Fun was set up in 2018 by a Head of Technology at a busy London Secondary School with the aim of bringing fun and engaging STEM activities to primary education.
Tech4Fun programming and coding workshops are designed for KS2 school children of all abilities, we provide all of the equipment needed for your pupils to get hands-on experience to learn about how coding can be used to control physical objects
We use the Crumble controller, which is easy to program using a Scratch based programming language. This allows students to experiment with a range of different inputs and outputs to achieve different results.

Why book Tech4Fun for educational workshops into your school?

Bring coding to life with these fantastic Crumble workshops;

Light it up – explore coding and sequencing of lights
Make it move – create an autonomous vehicle
Animate it – simple mechanisms to create a moving character
Sense it – investigate how sensors work

These workshops allow students to investigate how everyday things around us work and how they are controlled. The Crumble controller is an easily programmable microcontroller, using its own block-based coding language based on Scratch. It allows students to bring their coding to life by controlling Lights, servos, motors and sensors. Students learn about electricity and connecting circuits as well as programming.

The workshops are a great way of developing a students interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) education. The activities are mapped to the National curriculum and fulfil Ofsted criteria for Computing and D&T.

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

Apply their understanding of computing to program, monitor and control their products.
Design and make a product which can be programmed to do a task.

green tick Computing

Curriculum topics available: Coding.

Links to the curriculum KS2: Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; Solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts; Use sequence and repetition in programs; work with various forms of input and output.

What activities are available during group visits?

The coding workshops are based around 4 themes: Light it up - This session involves the coding and sequencing of emergency vehicle lights, students get to design and make their own emergency vehicle and program the lights.
Animate it - In this session students get creative, they could animate an animal or character from their favourite book or recreate a scene from history. Explore how levers and simple mechanisms can be used to create movement.
Sense it - In this session, students investigate how sensors are used as an input. Students can experiment with various outputs such as buzzers, lights and motor control.
Make it Move: In this session students design and build their own autonomous vehicle which they have to program to manoeuvre around a series of obstacles.
each theme is designed to last half a day or can be combined to requirements over a full day.
All materials are provided.

What size groups do you cater for?
