Cosmic Origins Spectrograph-Discover spectroscopy, the science of light, and learn how scientists study the Universe by deciphering clues hidden in light arriving from distant objects.
- The Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) is an instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope designed to analyse ultraviolet light from very distant, faint objects.
- COS allows us to learn about the origins of the large scale structure of the Universe, the cold interstellar medium, the formation and evolution of galaxies and the origin of stellar and planetary systems.
DARK
- DARK is a fulldome (360˚) film exploring the nature of Dark Matter, the missing 80% of the mass of the Universe.
- The search for Dark Matter is the most pressing astrophysical problem of our time – the solution to which will help us understand why the Universe is as it is, where it came from, and how it has evolved over billions of years.
- In the unimaginable depths of deep time, human life is but a flickering instant - yet in that instant, we can grasp the immensity of the Universe and through science, we can attempt to understand it.
MAGNETISM - DEFENDING OUR PLANET, DEFINING THE COSMOS
- MAGNETISM demonstrates how the Earth’s magnetic field protects our planet from energetic particles from the Sun and galaxy, and how the magnetic field also protects the water in our atmosphere from being swept away by the solar wind.
- It shows the first aurora seen simultaneously from the ground and from the ISS, and tells about the MMS mission (Magnetospheric Multiscale) and its quest to understand the magnetic connection between the Earth and the Sun.
MUSICA - Why is the Universe Beautiful?
- Stunning 360° film presenting the idea that art, music, physics and mathematics are fundamentally related and an integral part of the beauty of the Cosmos.
- Expanding on the ancient philosophical concept of musica universalis (the harmony of nature), this highly educational and cross-disciplinary film offers one explanation as to why we find Nature inspiring and beautiful.
- With vivid, detailed descriptions of the spiral designs inherent in natural phenomena such as DNA, sunflowers and galaxies, the concepts of harmony and harmonics that result from maths and physics are demonstrated to be universally present.
