Bringing History to Life: A Time-Travel Escape Room Experience with Puzzle Locker

Can you tell us a bit about Puzzle Locker and what you offer schools?

We deliver immersive, curriculum-linked escape room workshops in primary schools across the UK. Our workshops transform the school hall into a time-travelling adventure, where pupils solve puzzles, uncover artefacts, and work together to complete challenges before the time portal closes.

Using iPads, Augmented Reality (AR), and our unique interactive time-travelling floor mats, pupils are fully immersed from the moment the workshop begins. Our mats act as portals through time, guiding teams through different historical challenges and bringing each topic to life in a memorable, hands-on way.

What makes Puzzle Locker workshops different from other school workshops?

All children are actively involved throughout the workshop, solving puzzles, exploring artefacts, and working in small teams to complete a range of topic-themed challenges. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking, ensuring the 4Cs of learning are embedded into every workshop.

Our use of immersive technology, combined with teamwork and curriculum-linked challenges, keeps a full class engaged from start to finish and turns learning into an exciting and meaningful experience.

How do the workshops work on the day?

Our workshops take place in the school hall, and we can work with a class of up to 33 children at a time. Pupils are split into small teams and rotate between three different roles, each one focusing on reading, writing, or critical thinking.

Schools love that we can work with multiple KS2 year groups across the day, adapting content and challenge levels to suit each class. Whether it's lower or upper KS2, the experience remains engaging, age-appropriate, and curriculum-focused.

What have schools said about the experience so far?

The response has been fantastic, and we're incredibly excited to visit more schools. Pupils love the idea that they are travelling back in time, whether they're solving codes in WW2 Britain, exploring Ancient Greece, or uncovering secrets from Roman history.

One of the most exciting elements is our live national leaderboard. At the end of the workshop, each class receives a score, and schools can compete against others across the UK to see who can top the leaderboard. This gamification adds an extra layer of excitement to the day.
