Opening Adventure to Everyone: Creating Truly Inclusive School Residential Experiences
Calvert DevonInclusive Residential Trips
Organising a successful school residential requires more than exciting activities - it requires thoughtful planning, experienced staff and the ability to support diverse student needs. Calvert Devon's residential facilities allow us to host up to 104 students and staff on site, enabling whole cohorts to stay together and benefit from shared experiences.

Our experienced team works closely with teachers before arrival to understand group requirements, learning objectives and individual support needs. This collaborative approach helps schools feel confident that their residential programme will be safe, inclusive and well structured.
Supporting SEND and Mixed-Ability Groups
Calvert Devon is recognised for its expertise in delivering inclusive outdoor learning experiences. Our instructors are trained in adaptive activity delivery and inclusive teaching methods, ensuring sessions can be tailored to support a wide range of physical, sensory and learning needs.
Activities such as climbing, canoeing, archery and team challenges are delivered using a progressive challenge approach. This allows every student to participate at their own level while remaining fully engaged with their peers and group activities.
For SEND learners and students who may struggle in traditional classroom environments, residential trips provide powerful opportunities to build independence, resilience and self-confidence.
Duke of Edinburgh's Award Residential Opportunities
Calvert Devon also delivers dedicated Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Residential courses, providing young people aged 16-24 with the opportunity to complete this final award section in a supportive outdoor environment. These week-long residentials combine adventurous activities such as climbing, canoeing and team challenges with personal development opportunities that encourage independence, leadership and confidence. Participants benefit from a welcoming residential setting, experienced instructors and a programme designed to help every individual get the most from their DofE experience.
A Safe and Supportive Residential Environment
Student wellbeing and safeguarding are central to every Calvert Devon visit. Our site provides a secure and supportive environment where routines are maintained, staff can easily access support, and students feel comfortable exploring new challenges.
Schools benefit from comprehensive pre-visit planning, clear risk assessments and on-site support throughout their stay. This ensures residential trips run smoothly and meet both educational and safeguarding requirements.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Residential trips at Calvert Devon support key educational outcomes by developing teamwork, communication, problem-solving and emotional resilience. Outdoor learning encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, work collaboratively and build trust with their peers.
Teachers frequently report lasting positive impacts following residential visits, including improved confidence, stronger friendships and increased engagement back in the classroom.
Creating Inclusive Experiences That Last
At Calvert Devon, we believe adventure should be accessible to everyone. By combining inclusive programme design, specialist equipment and the ability to host large school groups, we help schools deliver residential trips that leave a lasting positive impact.
From first-time residential experiences to confidence-building outdoor challenges, our goal is simple - to open adventure to every student.
