This programme is ideal for any avid sports lover who wants to gain experience in football coaching, all while giving back to disadvantaged communities in Ghana.
You and your students will help young boys in the area improve their football skills. You will also help them develop confidence while having fun and getting fit.
Football is a national passion, and Ghanaians manage to play the game whenever they have a free moment, so your time here will be welcomed with open arms!
Through regular football coaching and giving the boys a chance to play competitive matches, you'll contribute to the development of their football skills and techniques. Our aim is to build a team of highly skilled football players who can secure scholarships through their athletic abilities and maybe one day play professional football for some of the best football leagues in the world!
Not only will your students be helping the youth in Ghana, but they will also be laying the foundation for their own future within sports, developing key skills such as:
> Communication
> Performance analysis
> Training planning
> Teamwork
> Leadership
> Problem-solving
As your students build their skillset, they will open doors to future opportunities and feel more prepared when taking the next step towards their professional goals.
Help your students stand out as candidates for sports degrees, internships, and job roles by joining this Football Coaching Programme in Ghana!

Example Itineraries for our 2026 trips
Day 1
You will land at Accra Airport (ACC), where you will see a Projects Abroad staff member, waiting for you with a sign by the exit.
You will then be taken by minibus to your accommodation in Akuapem Hills, where you will have time to unpack and rest for a little while.
After you have settled in, you will receive culture awareness training to gain insight into Ghanaian customs and traditions. There will also be orientations to help you feel more at ease in your new environment. You'll be shown the local area and then taken to your placement to familiarise yourselves with the facilities, meet placement staff, and discuss expectations and work schedules.
Days 2 - 6
The work can begin now that you're accustomed to the local area.
In the mornings, you will meet the local coaches and PE teachers to get to know each other, assess the team's and individuals' needs, and formulate an action plan. As schools finish for the day, your group will meet with the football players you will be coaching. Eager to show off their skills, you will quickly see the potential and talent you'll be working with for the next two weeks.
While talent and energy are essential, we also aim to turn the players into disciplined and dedicated team members. You and your students will teach them what it means to work together as a cohesive unit, encouraging team-bonding activities and some healthy competition!
As the week progresses, your students will analyse players' performance, adapt your training plan accordingly, and define focus areas for the next sessions.
Days 7 - 8
Ghana, and West Africa more widely, has a tragic past of colonialism and slavery. Many relics of this past remain today, and you will have the opportunity to explore the nation's tragic but important history.
Taking off early, you'll begin your journey to Cape Coast, a beautiful coastal city. Take in your surroundings and keep your eyes peeled during the four-hour trip! You might encounter some interesting species. On arrival, you will embark on a tour of the nearby castle and its museum. You will also learn about the city's fishing industry and relax on its stunning beaches.
On Sunday, you will delve deep into Ghana's wilder side with a trip to the dense rainforest of Kakum National Park. The highlight of this visit is walking through the treetops on a canopy walk. Learn all about the flourishing flora and fauna of Ghana while you spot birds and simply enjoy the peace of being immersed in this beautiful natural environment.
Days 9 - 13
Back to sports coaching after a fun weekend! Head for the Project Abroad local office to review the week's training plan. Monday afternoon will be spent running football training sessions.
Over the next few mornings, you will engage more widely with the community as you and your students work alongside staff to complete basic renovation tasks for the school or community centre based on the needs at the time of travel. In the afternoons, your students will continue to coach the football team while staff members have further opportunities to run workshops for teachers.
Round off your final week in Ghana with one last training session on Friday before saying goodbye to the group.
Day 14
You've left an impression on everyone you've worked with and contributed to our long-term initiative with the local community. You will have helped the players improve their confidence and skills, giving them a better chance for their future careers in the field.
Local teachers will use the knowledge acquired during the workshops to help further develop their students' skills.
It's time to board the flight back to the UK with a sense of accomplishment and memories to last a lifetime.
We hope you had a fantastic experience and can't wait to welcome you back soon!

Who are Projects Abroad?
Since 1992, Projects Abroad has helped young people step beyond the familiar and discover what they're truly capable of. As a global leader in educational travel, we've partnered with over 500 schools to deliver transformative school trips that help shape students' passions, careers, and futures.
We realise that each school has its own goals and interests, and the students have their own interests. We work with every school to develop a tailored itinerary that reflects their values and allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.
We're proud of our dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips. These experiences give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
The result is a trip that students remember long after they've left school, and one that reflects well on the school that made it possible!
