Why should you consider Childcare & Community in Nepal with Projects Abroad for
your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes which are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised, we realise that each school has its own goals and interests, the students their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary which reflects their values and which allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.

Example Itineraries
Day 1
When your group lands at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, there will be a Projects Abroad staff member waiting to collect you. The staff members are easy to spot because they’re by the airport exit holding a sign.
You will then be taken to your accommodation where you will have time to settle in and unpack.
Later in the day, you will take part in culture awareness training. This will give your group an insight into the Nepali culture, customs, and traditions of this beautiful country, helping you to settle in and better your understanding of the people you will meet during your trip.
There will also be orientations to help you feel more at ease while in Nepal. You will be shown the local area and then taken to your placement to get to know the facilities, meet placement staff, and discuss expectations and your work schedules.
Shortly after, you will be welcomed formally with your first meal in Nepal before getting some well-earned rest!
Days 2 to 6
During the daytime, your group will focus on placement work. You will learn how the setting works, meet the local staff and children and slowly start to participate in activities around the classroom. Your group will take part in activities such as:
> Reading books, singing songs, and role-playing to promote language skills
> Encouraging creativity through arts and crafts sessions
> Teaching the children about good hygiene through handwashing and teeth brushing
In the first week, you will take on more responsibility, planning and leading activities. At the end of each session, you will reflect together on the successes and challenges of each day and plan for the following day.
Each afternoon, you will work on your renovation project. To do this, the group is usually split into smaller teams with different responsibilities, rotating tasks to ensure everyone experiences each of the different roles. Depending on the nature of the project, this might include cleaning, painting, decoration, mending equipment or groundwork.
Day 7
Today, your group will get up early to begin the journey to Pokhara. This journey takes seven hours but gives you time to reflect on your first week as a group. Consider your goals for the following week, and recognise the progress you have made in the community and with your personal development!
On arrival, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful view of the Phewa Lake, which the city is built next to. You will then take a tour of the lake and enjoy the sunset together before enjoying a cultural show.
Day 8
The following day, you will head to Sarangkot first thing in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Himalayan Mountains. After a peaceful start to the day, you will see what else Sarangkot has to offer, exploring caves, temples, David’s Fall, and Shanti Stupa (also known as the World Peace Pagoda).
Day 9
Today you will travel back to Kathmandu after an amazing short break in Pokhara!
Days 10 to 13
It’s the final week of placement and students slip back into their usual daily rhythm of work with ease.
Looking back over all they have achieved, they realize how far they have come and the importance of their work in Nepal. Through their placement, they have helped to improve early childhood development, supported teaching staff, and created valuable teaching resources.
They’ve also worked hard to renew areas of their placement through renovation projects. Towards the end of the week, they see all of their efforts come together. The group takes a step back and reflects on the positive impact they have made on the local community.
On the final day, students thank the staff for their support, say their goodbyes to the children, and head back to their accommodation for a farewell meal. This is a great opportunity to enjoy their final evening and make a few more memories before heading home the following morning.
Day 14
After all of your hard work, it’s time to say your final goodbyes to the Projects Abroad staff before heading to the airport for your flight home.
It’s been an amazing journey for your group. You’ve developed a deep connection with the Nepali community and have bettered your understanding of the country's culture and history.
As you leave Nepal, know that you are always welcome back! We look forward to hearing what amazing things you achieve in the future.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
In the evenings and weekends, your group will explore more of Nepal and learn about the local culture and traditions through a variety of trips and activities. In addition to a weekend in Pokhara, you will learn to cook Momo; a type of dumpling. You'll also explore local markets and take part in a yoga class!
There will also be plenty of time to explore Kathmandu after work!
> Explore one of the holiest Buddhist stupas in Nepal, Swayambhu (also known as the Monkey Temple).
> Experience the area's traditions, culture and religions with a visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
> Visit Thamel to try new food, buy souvenirs, and wander through The Garden of Dreams!
Visiting holy Buddhist stupas around Nepal, you will begin to learn more about religion in Nepal and its importance throughout the country's history.
Touring the grounds of spiritual sites in both Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will better your understanding of spiritual peace and enlightenment
Working to improve the classrooms and outdoor spaces your group will paint murals, build furniture, and tidy up outdoor spaces at the local school or care center. This will create more inspiring and usable areas for students to learn and grow. Teachers will also have more places to plan lessons and enrich students education, opening more doors for them in the future.
What size groups do you cater for?
