By joining us on this programme, you and your students will support understaffed and underfunded schools and care centres to tackle the educational gap.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give your students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
With your help, we can work towards improving early childhood development and children’s learning environments.
During this trip, your group will also immerse itself in Nepali culture, explore some of the country's most iconic sites, and learn more about the nation's history and how it still shapes the country.

Example Itineraries
Day 1
You will land at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, where a Projects Abroad staff member holding a sign will be waiting to collect you by the exit. They will then take your group to your accommodation, where you will have time to settle in and unpack.
Later in the day, you will receive culture awareness training. This will give your group an insight into Nepali culture, customs, and traditions, helping you get comfortable in your new environment and with the people you will encounter during the programme.
Explore the area with a guided tour before heading to your placement to familiarise yourself with the facilities, meet placement staff, and discuss expectations and work schedules.
Shortly after, you will be welcomed formally with your first meal in Nepal before getting some well-earned rest!
Days 2 - 6
During the daytime, your group will focus on placement work. You will learn how the setting works, meet the local staff and children, and slowly start to participate in activities around the classroom. Your group will take part in activities such as:
> Reading books, singing songs, and role-playing to promote language skills
> Encouraging creativity through arts and crafts sessions
> Teaching the children about good hygiene through handwashing and teeth brushing
During the first week, your students will take on more responsibilities, planning and leading activities. At the end of each session, you will reflect as a group on the successes and challenges of each day before planning tomorrow's activities.
In the afternoons, you will work on your renovation project. To do this, the group is usually split into smaller teams with different responsibilities, rotating tasks to ensure everyone experiences each of the different roles. Depending on the nature of the project, this might include cleaning, painting, decorating, mending equipment or doing groundwork.
Day 7 - 8
The weekend will be the perfect opportunity to take a break from your placement and explore Nepal more. Your group will get up early to start heading to Pokhara, a seven-hour journey that will give you and your students time to reflect on your first week as a group. With your guidance, they will be able to consider their goals for the following week and recognise the progress they have made in the community and with your personal development!
On arrival, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful view of the Phewa Lake, which the city is built next to. You will then tour the lake and enjoy the sunset together before enjoying a cultural show.
The following day, you will rise early to watch the sunrise over the Himalayan Mountains from Sarangkot. After a peaceful start to the day, you will explore Sarangkot's attractions, including caves, temples, David’s Fall, and Shanti Stupa (also known as the World Peace Pagoda).
Day 9
After an amazing short break in Pokhara, it will be time to travel back to Kathmandu!
Days 10 - 13
It’s the final week of placement and you and your students will slip back into your usual daily rhythm of work. Looking back over all you have achieved, your group will realize how far you have come and the importance of your work in Nepal. You have helped improve early childhood development, supported teaching staff, and created valuable teaching resources.
Through the renovation project, you have also worked hard to renew areas of your placement and will be able to see all of your efforts come together by the end of the week.
On the final day, your group will thank the staff for their support, say their goodbyes to the children, and return to their accommodation for a farewell meal. This is an excellent chance to enjoy your final evening and make more memories before heading home the following morning.
Day 14
After all of your hard work, it’s time to say your final goodbyes to the Projects Abroad staff before heading to the airport for your flight home.
It’s been a fantastic journey for your group. You’ve developed a deep connection with the Nepali community and have bettered your understanding of the country's culture and history.
As you leave Nepal, know that you are always welcome back! We look forward to hearing what amazing things you achieve in the future.

Who are Projects Abroad?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes that are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised. We realise that each school has its own goals and interests, and the students have their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary that reflects their values and allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.
