Residential Trip Residentials London & South East

trip icon On a Rootd residential trip, children have a unique opportunity to switch off from the distractions of daily life, take on new challenges, learn new skills and make some lifelong memories with their classmates!

Many schools come to us after previous residentials using big trip providers, which can often feel impersonal and rushed. At Rootd, things are very different for a number of reasons:

1. Our highly trained, experienced instructors get to know every child, making them feel included and inspired to push themselves out of their comfort zone.

2. Our unique pod and bell tent accommodation gives you an outdoor experience that feels adventurous yet manageable.

3. From nature-based experiences to team challenges and adrenaline-fuelled activities, our carefully designed, age-appropriate programmes make sure there's an activity to suit every student - so everyone has a chance to shine.

Trips to suit every budget

We believe every child should have the chance to experience outdoor adventures, so we aim to make our residential trips accessible to as many children as possible. From one-night nature trips to three-night adventures, we offer great value at affordable prices.

Adventure on your doorstep

Located just five minutes from the M25 and within an hour of Central London, we're within easy reach, which means shorter travel times, lower coach costs and fuller days - so you can make the most of your time on camp!

What activities are available during educational visits in 2026?

Developing students' life skills and building their confidence and resilience as they explore the outdoors is the aim of our trips.

Our activities are designed to inspire every child to get involved and encourage independent thinking, creativity and teamwork. Whether this is building a shelter together or guiding each other on the high ropes, students learn resilience and the importance of working together through fun and exciting activities.

These include:
• Shelter building
• Fire lighting
• Abseiling
• Archery
• Cresta Run toboggans
• Team challenges
• Buggy building
• High ropes
• Underground tunnels
• Campfires
• Crate stacking
• Scavenger hunts

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

Physical Education School Trip

High Ropes Archery Climbing

Our Rootd residentials combine team challenges and adrenaline-fuelled activities that encourage children to push themselves out of their comfort zone and find out what they can achieve away from the classroom.

In our archery sessions, children feel like a modern-day Robin Hood as they go for gold amongst the trees. Requiring precision, control and a steady hand, archery is challenging and rewarding - and cheering on teammates is a must for this activity.

In our climbing sessions, children develop confidence and trust as they work out the best route up our outdoor climbing wall with a real crag feel. This session offers children a chance to challenge themselves on an individual level, while supporting their classmates as part of a wider team.

In our high ropes sessions, children reach new heights as they conquer our vertical obstacle course, tackling ladders, traverses and balance beams. Practising dexterity and control, they feel a real sense of achievement when they complete the course.

Bushcraft School Trip

On a bushcraft trip, our focus is on making the outdoors accessible and engaging, as children learn essential skills to enjoy and appreciate their natural surroundings.

Children can take part in a variety of activities, including fire making, shelter building, foraging, outdoor cooking, camouflage techniques, knife skills and animal tracking.
Our bushcraft trips are tailored to meet the needs of your students.

Every activity helps to develop resilience, teamwork, and problem solving. With a choice of one, two or three-night bushcraft trips there's an option to suit every budget and objective.

Team Building School Trip

Whether they're working together to build the fastest buggy, guiding each other along the nightline or supporting each other as they build the perfect woodland shelter, children come together on a Rootd residential to develop teamwork and build closer bonds.

Our teambuilding activities and games all encourage collaborative working, and rather than encouraging competitiveness, we encourage children to support each other to reach shared goals.

Forest School School Trip

Encouraging nature engagement is a focus of our Rootd residentials.

Children explore their surroundings through woodland games and activities, including forest foraging, tree detectives and tracking and signs, and they come away with a deeper appreciation of nature and the British woodland.

What size groups do we cater for?

30 - 120 pupils.

On-site classroom facilities?

Our activities all take place in the outdoors, but we have shelters located around the camp and indoor dining facilities.

Is there first aid on site?

Yes, every team member holds a Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid.
We have qualified first aiders on site at all times.

Access for visitors with disabilities

We strive to be as inclusive as possible, and although woodland based with natural limitations, the centre has disabled facilities.

Please contact us to discuss individual requirements.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

During the trip, our friendly and experienced staff will do all they can to support children with additional needs and make sure they feel included.

We offer teachers the opportunity to visit us before the trip, so you can plan ahead and talk to children about what to expect before they arrive on camp. Children with additional needs can also visit us beforehand, so they can familiarise themselves with the grounds and facilities.

Who are Rootd Adventure?

Rootd is an independent, family-run school trip provider based in Hertfordshire.

We believe in the power of nature to inspire children to be the best they can be, and so a Rootd school residential trip is all about connecting children with nature, while encouraging them to try new activities, take on new challenges, and discover just how much they can achieve away from the classroom.

We want children to leave their Rootd adventure feeling inspired, full of self-belief and with some great stories to tell!
