What activities are available during this educational workshop?
Group discussion is preceded by a stunning 360° film exploring the inner workings of the global climate, where we follow the path of energy from the Sun into the global systems that shape our climate: the atmosphere, the oceans and the biosphere. We also measure CO₂ levels inside the dome and compare them to global levels today.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Curriculum topics available: Extreme Weather, Global warming, Climate change.
An engaging 360° film is followed by a group discussion addressing questions such as why are we concerned about CO₂ levels today if natural processes have always produced significant amounts of CO₂? Also, the Earth has experienced colder - and hotter - epochs in the past; so are increasing global temperatures not simply due to natural cycles? We end off by measuring CO₂ levels inside the dome, and compare them to what are considered normal levels today, as well as in the recent past. Students and teachers will be left with vivid and lasting memories to motivate classroom learning about the climate emergency.
What size groups do you cater for?
Our largest dome can accommodate up to 70 primary school students (+ 4 adults); or up to 45 secondary school students (+ 4 adults). You have the choice of booking a 4m, 5m, 6m or 7m digital dome, for either half a day, full day or split across lunch; and we will happily squeeze in as many performances as you wish in the time allocated. We also cover a variety of other subjects, including astronomy, space, history (WWI & WWII), geography, dinosaurs and evolution (see our other adverts on this site).
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes we do. Not only are our domes easy to enter / exit through a standard doorway, but they are also wheelchair accessible.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes we do. The immersive nature of this show and its accompanying music is a rich sensory experience in itself. The presenter-led component is flexible and adaptable to all educational needs.
