What size groups do we cater for?

We cater for a minimum of 10 students for pre-booked educational sessions. Groups can number up to 150 per day with pupils being split across several sessions.

On-site classroom facilities?

We have an award winning classroom on site called the Udzungwa Discovery Centre.

Is there first aid on site?

We have a first aid team onsite (based near the main entrance). In the event that you need first aid, tell a member of staff and someone will come and help you. We also advise that you bring along a qualified first aider from your school.

Access for visitors with disabilities

Our classroom is wheelchair friendly and we have a disabled toilet with a hoist in first aid.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Our staff are experienced at teaching SEND individuals. We tailor our sessions to provide more tactile and inclusive learning. Our staff have received guide-dog training for those visually impaired, autism awareness training as well as a deaf awareness and communication clarity workshop. Zoo guided tours are accessible for groups of all abilities and can be shortened or lengthened for each group's desired needs. Groups will also have access to our discovery centre all day which can also be used a quiet area and for quieter sessions. During winter the zoo is closed to the general public during the week so when schools and organised groups visit they have the place to themselves so a private zoo for is becoming very popular

Anything else?

We have risk assessments for general visits to the zoo and theme park as well as for animal handling that we can send to teachers via email. We also offer a pre- visit for two teachers per booked class to enable them to conduct their own risk assessment or speak to our staff.

Who are Flamingo Land?

Generally schools book one workshop and one tour per class. If there is a large group above 35 students, we advise that they are split into smaller groups.
Once the workshops have ended or if you are waiting for the workshop to begin you are more than welcome to walk around the Zoo and Children's Planet. You are also welcome to watch the bird or sea lion shows providing that your group enters and settles before the show begins.
We have free bag storage for all students and staff booked onto our educational sessions. Outdoor picnic areas and limited indoor lunch space are also available.
We offer free pre-visits for up to two teachers per class for those booked onto educational sessions.
