School ski trip to Switzerland snowball

The best Swiss resorts for school groups

Other Alpine countries may cater for more people, but for the iconic experience of skiing you cannot better a ski trip to Switzerland. Home of legendary resorts such as St Moritz, Verbier, Zermatt and Klosters, Switzerland manages to balance the traditional charm of mountain villages, with the demand for first class, high tech skiing facilities. Top tip for your students – free up as much memory on your phone as possible for all the award winning photo opportunities in this picture postcard country.

Less crowded

Recent changes to Swiss employment law have forced ski operators to increase the wages they pay to their employees. From cleaning staff and chefs to ski instructors and resort reps, the traditional low pay, high perks resort job is now a thing of the past. This has led to several operators pulling out of Switzerland, but luckily many still remain, and are eager to show you and your school how incredible a ski trip to this country can be. We are yet to see whether less tour operators means less tourists, but in general the Swiss slopes tend to be slightly less crowded that their French equivalents in any case.

Eating on your Ski Trip

The food on a Swiss school ski holiday is a wonderful mix of European influences. Switzerland has German, French and Italian speaking parts, and the ski resorts embrace the cuisines of all three to offer some memorable meals for your hungry students. From smoked pork, hot pots and sausage salads, to apple cookies and strudel. Your school trip certainly isn’t going to return home hungry!

Skiing and Snowboarding

We have already mentioned some of Switzerland’s more famous ski resorts, but there are plenty more to choose from. With half the country being mountainous, Switzerland has dozens of resorts to choose from and thousands of kilometres of pistes to ski. While traditional skiing remains king, there has been plenty of investment in recent years for snowboarding facilities, so if you want your school students to be able to try their hand at both sports, make sure you choose a resort that can cater for both.

Reasons to choose Switzerland for your next school ski trip...

The Food – Switzerland is a mix of European influences and the cuisine is no exception. Hearty, warming mountain cuisine is available at every turn. You will not be hungry in Switzerland.

Choice of ski areas – Whether you want your school to rub shoulders with Royalty at Klosters or sleep in the shadow of the mighty Matterhorn at Zermatt, Switzerland has choice in spades. Sass Fee is our favoirite, but you really cannot choose a bad Swiss ski resort for your school trip!

Reliable snow fall – At the heart of the Alps, Switzerland is all but guaranteed good snow conditions, and on the rare occasions the white stuff refuses to fall, the resorts are geared up to create their own in order to keep the pistes open and in prime condition.
