Why book 'Lotherton School Trips' for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Lotherton offers a full day out experience all year round, perfect for end of term school trips. From outdoor play to animal discovery, and from special exhibitions to lively local history in the museum, Lotherton has something for everyone to enjoy.

The educational workshops encompass all aspects of the estate and can be tailored to your class and subject topics. Local history, Florence Nightingale, WW1 & 2 are just some of the workshops available in the museum. Over in Wildlife World students can find out about different habitats of animals both close to home and further afield, discover how different animals survive in the wild and get up close to some of the incredible species that call Lotherton home.

The huge grounds, formal gardens and two playgrounds provide plenty of outdoor space for children and grown-ups to explore. You can also watch the majestic deer from the hide in Deer Park Corner.

There is a café on site, and dedicated education rooms are available for breakout sessions and lunchtime.

Lotherton is in the open countryside to the east of Leeds and easily accessible from the A64 and the M1.

There is free coach parking, please let us know when you book so that we can reserve a space.

Admission is free for Leeds Local Authority schools and only £1.30 per child for Leeds academies and non-Leeds schools. Workshops start at £45 for 45 minutes.

Drawing Craft

Art-based workshops can be delivered by our dedicated education officer through our 'Topic Days' workshop sessions. Use the museum collections as inspiration to create giant drawings, discover the different materials and patterns featured in the historic house, and explore the different seasons through creative practices. Each workshop is adapted to suit your needs so if you have an idea in mind, please get in touch.

Wildlife

Lotherton's zoo, Wildlife World, contributes to conservation initiatives by taking part in European breeding programmes and aims to raise awareness of endangered animals and plant species. Workshops cover subject topics including habitats, adaptations, and classification.

Victorian

Florence Nightingale

Lotherton has family connections to Florence Nightingale and our specialist workshop on the lady with the lamp introduces pupils to her as a girl and young woman, her decision to become a nurse, and opportunities to be interactive with museum objects.

World War

Technological developments Evacuation

Introduce students to WW1 and WW2 in our dedicated workshops which include interactive object handling sessions. Find out what life was like for local people when Lotherton became a Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital in the First World War, and take part in evacuation role play as part of the WW2 workshop.

Step into Wildlife World and find out how our conservation zoo is helping to protect vulnerable and endangered species, plus get up close to the animals! Our biology-focused workshops include sessions on how animals adapt to different environments, the habitats they live in, classification of species, and what types of food different animals eat in order to survive.

Rainforest Environment

Explore the animals, plants and resources found in rainforests around the world in Lotherton's dedicated rainforest workshop. Set in Wildlife World, Lotherton's conservation zoo, pupils will have the opportunity to get up close to exotic birds and mammals and discover how they adapt to rainforest life.

Lotherton is dedicated to providing excellent learning experiences for as many students as possible and SEN students are especially welcome. Workshops can be tailored to suit SEN pupils across a range of curriculum subjects, and spaces adapted for different needs.
