Anglo Saxon workshops
For this fascinating historical time period we have Saxon school workshops that address the different approaches to life the Saxons had, and uncover a cultural legacy in the form of stories, place names, architecture and treasures.
Topics we offer include the origins of Saxons - where did they come from and was there a mighty battle or did they just settle gradually over time? Children can find out more about The dark Ages and its people - the Saxons, Jutes, and Angles. About the Seven Saxon Kingdoms, England divided by the Danelaw, Athelstan - the first king of England, and Alfred the Great's ambition to unite Britain. We also cover the arrival of the Vikings at Lindisfarne and the battles they fought over land thereafter, through until King Alfred the Great and the end of the Saxon period.
Through interactive activities, we can engage your class in how everyday Anglo Saxons lived, worked and farmed. How they organised their society. Their laws and justice system, art, culture and their religion and beliefs. By sharing stories of the Sutton Hoo treasure, the Lindisfarne Gospels, or the life of an ordinary ceorl, our workshops can transport your pupils back in time and demonstrate what happened in Britain between the end Roman period and the Norman conquest.
