Exploring the science of sound

person icon School Of Noise

Communication, noise pollution, music, engineering, medicine, art, health and navigation are just some of the areas in which sound can play an important role. Back in 2015, the School of Noise began as a weekend class for young people to learn more about these areas and explore experimental music-making and listening. Since then we’ve grown to deliver workshops and talks worldwide at some of the most prestigious settings including the Royal Institution, Cambridge University, BBC and the Royal College of Music.

“The School of Noise is one of those ideas that you just know is right: bringing back a sense of wonder & accessibility to music-making.” - Jarvis Cocker (Musician)
Each year we visit lots of schools around the country running workshops in classrooms and halls for all age groups. Sometimes we are brought in to help launch a sound topic, other times we are there to consolidate the end of it or be part of science week.

“I just wanted to email to say thank you so much for coming along to school today. The activities were great, and the children were really engaged and amazed by the world of sound. Thanks for being great with our children and opening their eyes to the world around us.” - The Meadows Primary Academy

- Engagement and Interest: By making the learning process interactive and enjoyable, the School of Noise helps capture students' interest in the subject.

- Practical Understanding: Hands-on activities and practical demonstrations enhance students' understanding of abstract concepts related to sound and music.

- Cross-Curricular Connections: Integrating sound education with various subjects can help students see the interconnectedness of different disciplines, making learning more holistic.

- Encouraging Creativity: Exploring sound in a creative and open-ended way fosters a sense of creativity and self-expression among students.

- Inspirational Learning: The School of Noise may inspire students to pursue further studies or interests in music, technology, science, or other related fields.
