KidZania London - the indoor city run by kids
The Team at KidZania kindly took some time out of their busy day to tell us about their preparations for opening in October 2020, and how they have transformed the learning experience ready to welcome schools back to their world class facility.
From October 1st and after extensive safeguarding preparations, KidZania London, the indoor city run by kids will open its doors once again. The KidZania site occupies the largest retail space in Westfield London (equal to the size of Leicester Square) and has undergone significant operational changes to ensure a safe return with even more opportunities for an enhanced learning through educational, fun and realistic role-play experiences.
During the opening weekend, 1st-4th October 2020, KidZania London will recognise the hard work and sacrifice of frontline key workers throughout the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, by offering them a FREE adult ticket, per one child.
The KidZania City is run and supported by a number of keyworker professions, of which the related activities have been further enhanced to celebrate these heroes. Families can enjoy even more relevant key worker themed activities such as assisting in the delivery of 'food parcels' to collection points around the city, distributing PPE gear for paramedics and nurses in our AlderHey Hospital, as well as our Police Officers who will be tasked with reminding guests to remain at a social distance across the City.
These activities prioritise core skills identified by KidZania as requisite to personal development and the future world of working. In direct response to their required frontline efforts, there will also be increased 'salaries' for KidZania's keyworker activities across the city as well as daily 'Zank-U' parades.
KidZania London will operate reduced opening hours across fewer days in the week, with guests asked to book ahead online to guarantee entry, as well as familiarise themselves with the full list of health and safety measures and requirements before visiting.
In addition to this, KidZania London is proud to announce a new offering as part of their Educational Visit Programme. Two new workshops created especially for pupils in Key Stages 1-3 can be added to a booking offering pre-visit support and context to their future educational visit to KidZania London. Teachers can choose from Literacy or Numeracy workshops to be delivered in their own classrooms, allowing pupils to engage with key national curriculum objectives and build their excitement not only for their future visit, but their own learning and self-development.
Both workshops last up to one hour but can be scaled up or down to suit the timetabled day. A member of the Education Team from KidZania will conduct the workshops either in your own classroom or during their visit. All resources and collateral needed for the workshops including Powerpoint slides and worksheets are supplied as well as certificates celebrating pupils' achievements during the session.
Both workshops not only support the national curriculum but can be scaled up or down to make suitable for any year group in Key Stages 1-3. More detail of the two workshop offerings are as follows:
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Pupils will explore their future career aspirations and what qualities are required for their dream job whilst they work towards building their very own CV!
Our Education Team will work with the children to help them to build upon their reading and writing skills whilst engaging them in discussing what a CV is for and how to write for the job of their dreams. Utilising their spoken and written vocabulary, kids will focus on self-reflection, goal setting and their ambitions for the future as well as building excitement for their future school trip where they can try out some of the careers for themselves.
It all adds up...
Pupils will enjoy using their imaginations to create their own shop, including its inventory and name, as well as deciding on its number of employees and how much of a loan is needed from KidZania's National Bank to support their new business venture. Mathematical skills are key in this workshop as children navigate loans, repayments and profit and losses.
The education team will help kids flex their mathematical skills including multiplication, ratio and percentages. Not only does this workshop compliment skills needed when earning and spending kidZos in the city, but allows discussion around PSHE topics including money, wealth and the economy.
Both workshops are available to book in addition to a KidZania London visit at only £2 per child, with availability for in-classroom visits from the 7th September 2020. Discounts for groups of 40+ are available on request. For more information or to request a workshop, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
LIMITED TIME OFFER
For those who book and pay their deposit by the 31st October 2020, you guarantee your school £10.00 tickets and a FREE workshop will be added to your booking! You must request the £10.00 offer and workshop at time of booking for this offer to apply. Terms and conditions apply, available at:
Designed for children aged 4-14, KidZania blends learning and reality with entertainment. During a four-hour experience, children can independently choose from a number of real-life activities and test their skills in a variety of professions.
