Young People Love Learning When Learning Is So Much Fun!

As we all know, sustaining children's memory, motivation and attention can be challenging, but having fun makes all the difference!
Fun activities spark curiosity and enthusiasm, encouraging young people to engage with the material and when they enjoy what they’re doing, they’re more likely to remember what they’ve been told.
Cumulus Outdoors offers school and youth groups the opportunity to participate in a range of fun outdoor adventure activities during a residential school trip, either at our Residential Centre or our exclusive Tented Villages. We work with you to create a bespoke activity programme, which is designed to meet the required outcomes of your group. Each activity combines fun with learning, for example:
Coasteering
• Environmental awareness
Students will learn about the ocean environment and see real life examples of how climate change is affecting the local area.
• Communication and confidence
Good verbal communication skills are essential in order to deliver and understand instructions quickly and accurately and all the while maintaining their own and everyone's safety.
Ropes Course
• Coordination
A good level of general fitness is required to complete our courses. Students’ motor skills will be put to the test as they traverse wooden beams and scale the tower.
• Teamwork
Teamwork is essential if teams are to successfully complete the ropes courses as a group. Working together supporting the whole team to build the highest crate stack or supporting friends to take the leap of faith and overcoming their fear of heights.
Tunnelling
• Teamwork and problem solving
Tunnelling requires students to strategise, communicate and support each other while conquering various challenges within the tunnels.
Improving their navigation skills and self-confidence while exploring the network of tunnels, finding items to complete and solve the tunnels' puzzle activity. And all the time working in the dark with only a head torch to find their way through the tunnel maze - what a challenge to meet!
Orienteering
• Planning
Careful planning is required to complete the session successfully, teams are required to find all the hidden control points, competing against each other to see who can find the greatest number of points.
• Physical Education
To add a bit of friendly competition to the session, we challenge students to complete the route fully and as quickly as possible.

Of course, our residentials are not only restricted to the summer months. Benefits of a winter educational visit include, amongst others:
1. Fewer schools attending so there are smaller numbers of students on site creating a more suitable environment for SEND pupils to be able to relax and enjoy the experience of a school residential.
2. The shorter days and longer nights/evenings provide the opportunity to experience different activities such as night hikes, star gazing and bat detection!
3. Shoulder season activities can also include many land-based adventures and increased visits to, for example, Corfe Castle, Etches Museum, and the Tank Museum to link with school curriculum as required.
4. A kick-start to the learning year, setting the tone for a new year of learning and enabling both the new classmates and teachers to meet and bond and learn how to work together.
5. Coming away on a winter school trip really boosts resilience and well-being - put on a coat, wellies, gloves and a scarf and get outside!
