Creating Lasting Memories: Affordable School Trips with Cumulus

At Cumulus, we’ve always worked closely with schools to craft residential programmes that are tailored to meet specific budgets and desired outcomes. However, we also understand that these are particularly financially challenging times for many families and schools.
So we’ve put our thinking caps on and come up with ideas which offer flexible solutions that make unforgettable school trips more accessible for everyone.

Lower-Cost, More Affordable School Trip Options
Off Peak Accommodation Only Residentials
Available during quieter months such as February, March, April, October, or November, these trips are designed to reduce costs. By opting for an accommodation-only programme without the included activity sessions, the price of your trip becomes significantly more affordable. School staff can take the lead in planning their own activities, exploring local landmarks like Corfe Castle, Old Harry Rocks, Studland Beach, Swanage Pier, Durlston Country Park, and the Swanage Railway. Being in a new setting sparks curiosity, encourages adventure, and creates the ideal environment for learning, a perfect backdrop for a school trip.
Off-Peak Part-Self-Led, Part-Activity Programs
Also available during the off-peak months, this option allows schools to mix self-led activities with Cumulus-led sessions. By swapping one or two activity sessions for self-led school activities, the overall cost of the trip is reduced. This combination provides variety for the children while ensuring that the school’s learning outcomes are still met. For example, we can help plan a programme focused on team cooperation, confidence-building, and leadership, all within the context of fun and educational activities.
Additional Support for Schools and Families
Beyond the programme options above, Cumulus is committed to helping schools access financial assistance. We can provide information about charities and foundations that offer financial support to families or individuals looking to take part in a residential trip, ensuring that no child misses out on this invaluable experience.
Wonderful Support Available for Students and Families
We are proud to have recently collaborated with The Tony Trust, helping students participate in both school educational visits and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residentials. Through this partnership, families can apply directly to the Trust, where individual cases are reviewed, and a donation is awarded to help cover the cost of the trip. The donation is paid directly to the company organizing the residential, eliminating any financial burden on the family or the school.Families who have received support from the Trust consistently provide positive feedback, praising the simplicity of the application process and the significant impact the donations have had in enabling their children to attend these valuable experiences. The opportunity to join their friends on these trips allows students to gain numerous personal benefits, from building confidence to developing life skills.
At Cumulus, our mission is simple, to give as many children as possible the opportunity to experience the incredible benefits of a school educational visit in a stunning location.
We work closely with schools and parents to ensure that every child can take part. As part of our inclusive approach, we provide valuable information on grants, charities, and foundations that specifically support children and their school trip experiences.
