Learn about the Northern Lights and also optional visit to the Swedish Institute of Space Physics. The Institude covers Space physicsm Atmospheric physics and space technology. The institute is primarily Doctoral and post doctoral research and for this reson it does tend to be more suitable for 15+ but there is opportunity to enjoy a presentation and then be given a tour of the complex and talk with some of the students.
Geography
Opportunity to meet Sami herdspeople and how people settled in the far north thousands of years ago. The unique and harsh climate will be experienced and this puts a sharp focus to explore how the Sami coped with these conditions long before modern technologies. more than 250km north of the Arctic Circle it allows for academic and casual considerations as to what it is and means to be so far north from Polar night and midnight sun to the temperature variations that occur.
Geology
Possibility to visit Europe's biggest Iron Ore mine and learn about how they prode themselves on their green credentials. Examine how the expansion of the mine has resulted in the decision for the mine to pay to move an entire city to allow safe mining and protect the town from subsidence.
