We are a multi-award-winning volunteer travel organization who run meaningful and rewarding community development and wildlife conservation volunteer placements in Africa!

Since 2004, we have facilitated over 17,000 volunteer placements, from individuals looking to make a difference, to school groups and universities from all over the world.

Because each group is unique, we tailor each group itinerary to suit your group’s specific needs and to make sure you get the most out of your school trip volunteering experience (which we hope will also include some exciting cultural, or sightseeing, excursions!).

We run our own projects on the ground, meaning we look after everything and are with you and your group every step of the way; from choosing the best location to volunteer and picking you up at the airport, to guiding you in your day to day activities and measuring your contribution to our projects!

Volunteers can be involved in anything from wildlife conservation, research and helping uplift underprivileged communities, to lending a hand in clinics, teaching young children or having some fun doing games and sports coaching!

Why should you consider African Impact for 6th Form, College & University Group Tours?

Volunteering abroad is the ideal way for high school students to learn about new countries, learn new skills and appreciate a unique cultural exchange while having FUN! It builds character, confidence, and promotes teamwork, while also giving young students the opportunity to give back and gain a new perspective and respect for different cultures.

We have a solid network of staff and operators comprising of over 500 people around the continent, with operation bases on the ground and 24-hour support from trained project managers and guides, which means we know what we’re doing!

Because of this, we know that volunteering has the capacity to change lives – not just those of the people in the communities we support; but those of the volunteers themselves.

Example Itineraries

We will happily create a bespoke itinerary for your group, depending on their age, interests and available budget. As you're coming so far, we would definitely recommend taking in some of the sights too, so check out these popular locations:

- ST LUCIA, SOUTH AFRICA
St Lucia is located in South Africa and is part of a World Heritage Site. The prospect of working in rural village communities with children and entire families living in poverty ensures that there is a wide range of community development activities on offer in this friendly and welcoming part of South Africa. This destination is also perfect if a beach is high on your list of wishes as it sits on the beautiful warm Indian Ocean and is also a wildlife ‘hotspot’ with endless safari opportunities.

- LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA
Livingstone is located next to the mighty Victoria Falls in Zambia, where you will regularly see sunsets over the Zambezi river. Working with the local communities and governments for over 9 years, we have a range of community projects here, from building and refurbishments, eco-friendly initiatives and community development activities which work with both vulnerable children and adults.

- GREATER KRUGER AREA, SOUTH AFRICA
Greater Kruger National Park is iconic in South Africa for its wildlife. If getting up-close and personal to the Big 5 while learning research techniques and the importance of the environment is on your agenda, then look no further. Living in a lodge surrounded by wildlife, your group members will learn to understand the importance of wildlife, as well as being part of environmental education programs in the local communities.

- VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE
Victoria Falls is on the border of Zimbabwe and overlooks one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. This location provides the option to interact with and be involved in lion conservation and research, as well as providing education to the local schools that rest on the banks of the mighty Zambezi river. Weekend activities include white water rafting, sunset cruises and lunches in nearby Victoria Falls town.

- ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA
Zanzibar is a tropical island in the Indian Ocean, just off the coast of Tanzania. Famed for its vibrant culture, pristine sandy beaches and beautiful blue waters, we work within a number of small fishing villages providing community development and educational activities that uplift the local people. Depending on your needs we can also accommodate groups interested in marine research activities and plan a number of exciting excursions during your free time.

What size groups do you cater for?

6 to 30 students (or more by special arrangement).

Is there first aid on site?

Safety on our projects is of high importance to us, which is why our project managers and teams on the ground are fully trained in first aid and know how to act in any emergency. However, we do not have First Aid cover and all volunteers joining our programs will be required to have suitable medical cover and travel insurance for their trip. We will happily assist you in finding suitable options though!

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?

Most of our projects can cater to people with disabilities, but it would depend on the extent of the disability.

Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Most of our projects can cater for children with special needs, but we would recommend chatting with our Groups Manager to find the best fit!

"We took the whole year group for a day trip to Beamish this year. We could have done with a week, there was so much to see. One class took the Victorian lesson, complete with no nonsense teachers. The other class were introduced to life in a mining cottage. Beamish is a fantastic resource for school groups."
