Why should you consider Public Health in Ghana with Projects Abroad for
your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes which are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised because we realise that each school has its own goals and interests, and the students have their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary which reflects their values and which allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.

Example Itineraries
Days 1-2
Students will arrive at Accra Airport where they will be met by a Projects Abroad staff member. They will be easy to spot as they will be wearing a Projects Abroad shirt and holding a sign. They will then be taken by minibus to their accommodation in Akuapem Hills, where they will have the rest of the day to get used to their new environment.
These first couple of days focus on orientation, in the city and at their placement setting, and discussions around safety and cultural sensitivity. The group will go over the plan for the programme with our local team and ensure everyone is aware of their roles and can make a start on thinking about activities to initiate in the setting.
Days 3-6
With support from doctors and other experienced medical staff, the students will learn a range of skills and complete tasks such as:
1. Assisting professional medical staff as they provide free health checks during community outreaches by:
Dressing wounds
Carrying out health checks, like measuring blood sugar and blood pressure levels
Giving malaria tests
Making presentations on common health issues.
2. Observing the work of qualified doctors as they treat patients in a local hospital or clinic
Social and Cultural Activities
In the evenings, Projects Abroad ensures that the fun continues! From visits to the Aburi Botanical Gardens and traditional arts and crafts market to an African drumming and dance lesson, there will be plenty to do.
Days 7-8
On Saturday, the group explore Cape Coast; a beautiful coastal city. Here students visit the Cape Coast Castle and relax on the beach.
On Sunday, students delve deep into the wilder side of Ghana, with a trip to the dense rainforest of Kakum National Park. The highlight of this visit is walking through the treetops on a canopy walk.
Days 9-13
This week, the group will continue to support conservationists with their jobs around the park.
On their last day, the group celebrate their time in Ghana with a farewell meal at a restaurant.
Day 14
On the final day, students wave goodbye to the staff as they head back to the airport for their flight home.

Who are Projects Abroad?
Projects Abroad was founded in 1992 by Dr Peter Slowe, a Geography Professor at the University of Chichester. Wanting to explore former Soviet countries after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he founded Projects Abroad. Soon after, volunteers began travelling to Romania to teach and the company has continued to grow ever since.
Hundreds of thousands of volunteers have travelled with us over the years. Join us on our trip to Ghana and gain hands-on experience while learning from experienced professionals.
