Why should you consider Nomadic School Tours for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Some six million Poles died during the Second World War, half of who were Jews murdered in forests east of the country or in the death camps set up after the German occupation. By far the largest of these was Auschwitz Birkenau which was the site of over one million deaths, mainly Jews brought in from all over Europe. Our tour examines the lines that were persistently drawn by the Nazis in their relentless persecution of the Jews and other groups they deigned undesirable, enabling trip participants to bear witness to one of the darkest chapters in human history as well as reflect on the lasting lessons for today.

Day 1 - Krakow
Welcome to Poland. The next four days are bound to have a significant impact on you as you learn about the history of the Holocaust. Your flight will arrive in the morning where your guide will meet you at the airport and take you to drop your bags at the hotel. After lunch we'll enjoy an orientation tour of central Krakow including the Market Square and Wawel Castle. After sightseeing, we will return to the hotel to check in and enjoy dinner.

Day 2 - Auschwitz
Today will be a difficult day for some, but it is an incredibly important part of history. We depart Krakow for our all day visit to Auschwitz. This will be fully guided and will start at the Auschwitz 1 Concentration Camp. After finishing this tour there will be time for a packed lunch before we make our way to Birkenau Death Camp in the afternoon. Here again the tour will be fully guided. When the tour is completed we will return to our hotel for an evening meal.

Day 3 - Kazimierz District
This morning we will spend some time in the Kazimierz district of Krakow. The renowned Jewish quarter of Krakow featured prominently in the film of Schindler's List and it is here we see the rebirth of a Jewish community destroyed during World War Two. In the afternoon we will take a 30 minute journey to the Wielickza Salt Mines. Sodium Chloride has been produced here from the upwelling of brine since Neolithic times. We follow our guided tour and visit this amazing place, the highlight being the Grand Ballroom where Pope John Paul II visited in 1971 when he was Cardinal of Krakow. Mass is still celebrated here every Sunday.

Day 4 - Krakow
Its our last day in this historical city so we'll finish our tour with a visit to the site of Oskar Schindler's factory which is now part of the Krakow Museum. Schindler's Factory consists of three parts, namely its permanent show, space set aside for temporary displays and the screening room. The permanent exhibition is entitled 'Krakow under Nazi Occupation 1939 - 1945' which correctly summarizes its contents. The screening room is meant as a venue for movies, lectures, meetings and varied cultural or educational activities. After we have explored the exhibition thoroughly we will have lunch then return you to the airport for your flight back to the UK. Thank you for traveling with Nomadic School Tours.
