What more does one have to say about a Geography tour of Peru? We immediately think of the ancient lost civilizations of the Inca and Machu Picchu. There is the stunning geological features of the Andes and the High Altiplano. And don't forget the wonderful and vibrant flora and fauna of the Amazon rain forest. There is just so much that your pupils could get out of a trip to Peru.
Day 1: Arrive Cusco
Transfer, evening in Cusco
Day 2: Cusco City Tour
Visit the fascinating Qorikancha Temple of the Sun, the 12-Angled Rock, and the Cathedral, built on the ruins of an Inca Palace. fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo the giant rock, the ancient site of Puca Pucara and finally the Water Temple of Tambomachay.
Day 3: Full Day Sacred Valley Tour
The Urubamba river valley, Maras salt ponds, Moray Inca ruin, Ollantaytambo fortress.
Day 4: Visit local community project
Community project visit in The Sacred Valley to non profit association sustainably improving
living conditions for the local indigenous population of the Peruvian Andes.
Day 5: Full Day Machu Picchu Tour
Train to Aguas Calientes, then be amazed by the site of this ancient Citadel. Fully guided tour of the ruins.
Day 6: Cusco Activity day
Choose between Chocolate workshop, Cusco culinary experience, Rafting the Chuquicahuana river, Horse riding or Mountain biking.
Day 7: Refugio Amazonas
Infierno Community, Tambopata National Reserve. ( hectare conservation unit)
Day 8: Canopy Tower
25m Canopy Tower for stunning tree top views of the Amazon canopy. Spot toucans, macaws and raptors. Boat trip to Tambopata Research Center deep in the Amazon rain forest.
Day 9: Macaw Clay Lick
Dawn walk to macaw clay lick, a raucous, vibrant spectacle of scarlet green, blue & gold macaws and parrots. 5 km Amazon rain forest walk.
Day 10: Terra Firma Trail
A chance to explore the Amazon on foot through hills and swamp edges. Look out for saddleback tamarins and rare tapir tracks. Understand the importance of aguaje palms and their fruits.
Day 11: Lima
Transfer from Tambopata Research Center via boat and plane to Lima. Lima (colonial City of Kings) city tour, inc cathedral, Presidential Palace, Plaza de Armas and the Catacombs beneath the San Francisco Convent.
Day 12: Depart UK
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
