Our range of programmes in AFRICA provides students with opportunities to learn languages, learn new skills, and all the while, giving a little something back to the communities that they spend time with.
Africa hosts such a rich variety of terrains, cultures and history - it's hard to choose where to go! That's why we pack so much into our trips, that you'll find a little bit of everything for even the most difficult to please! Here is a selection of some of the activities that each country has in store for you:
UGANDA
Learn what life is like for Ugandan farmers, as you help out at a small farm, caring for crops and animals. In your free time, you can explore the area with your friends, and get to know locals, learning a little Swahili throughout your time here.
GHANA
Help local communities to build and restore communal buildings, adding your creative flair to schools and parks - or help out a local kindergarten, teaching young children basic English as you learn about their language, local culture, and, of course, delicious Ghanaian cuisine!
KENYA
Budding eco-warriors welcome! Help to make a difference in the local community by planting seedlings and tending young plants, as you talk with Kenyan volunteers and learn about the environment. There are also national parks, and fun wildlife activities, galore here!
SOUTH AFRICA
Cheetah conservation is a highlight of our trips here, but you can also visit penguin colonies, head up Table Mountain, or visit the many wildlife reserves that South Africa offers.
ETHIOPIA
Immerse yourself in the wonderful culture of the Ethiopian people, from Amharic dancing to local folklore, and take a boat to some of the many islands in Lake Tana.
MADAGASCAR
Help save the mangrove forests, which help to sustain the local environment - and take in some cool treks along the way, past waterfalls, rivers and through dense, rich jungles.
CAPE VERDE
Spend time as a Loggerhead Sea Turtle Conservationist, taking care of this endangered species ...or take off on an action-packed adventure through Cape Verde's valleys, mountains and forests, spotting local wildlife along the way.
TANZANIA
Dance and sing with the Maasai Tribe, lose yourself in the maze-like Stone Town, or glimpse the turtles of Prison Island before settling down on the beach for the evening,
TRU provide a great range of exciting expeditions to enable students to step out of their comfort zone and experience new and thrilling activities with their friends, as they discover, through jungles and rivers, up mountains and down waterfalls - all that AFRICA has to offer.

Example Itineraries
Here's an example itinerary for Environmental Volunteering in Kenya, one of our most popular projects:
During your time here in Kenya as an Environmental Volunteer, you will be busy with the many aspects of preserving the local environment. As such, your activities may include any or all of the following:
- Preparing tree seedlings and learning how to maintain a tree nursery
- Actual tree planting (will involve digging of the holes where the seedlings will be planted)
- Community education on the importance of reforestation
- Creating a green wall where we reuse plastics to decorate walls and also have vertical - vegetable gardens in various institution
- Assist with environmental conservation and sustainability efforts
- Gain invaluable knowledge about the ecological challenges faced in the region
- Assist the local community efforts to educate the community youth about the initiative and the related environmental matters to encourage their consistent and proactive participation
MANDATORY INDUCTION DAY
On the Monday of your first week at this location, you will join our orientation day to learn about your surroundings and local culture. Thereafter, your program will continue as usual from Tuesday throughout the rest of the week.
Orientation Day Schedule
Introduction meeting, House rules, Setting Expectations, Health and Safety Advice and handling of documents.
Kenyan Do’s and Don’ts, Culture introduction and country history and Swahili Language Lessons.
Tour around the compound and local area; where to find local shops, and arrange a sim-card if necessary.

Trip to Nakuru town where you can buy essentials if required
You will spend 4-6 hours daily assisting with the goals of the local initiative’s goals. Your day will depend on the tasks required, but typically it will look like this:

Evenings and Weekends
After a day of environmental volunteering, you can choose to explore the area or head further afield on the weekends. Many of our volunteers enjoy mixing with their new volunteer friends during the week and plan their weekend adventures as they go!
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Conservation
From cheetah conservation to looking after sick turtles, or planting mangrove seedlings to preserve the precious mangrove forest habitats, we actively choose community projects which can make a real difference in these areas. Students will learn all about the subject of their choosing, and also have the opportunity to teach others what they have learned, guided and supported by our friendly, capable teams.
What size groups do you cater for?
We cater for group sizes from 10 - 50, including teaching/supervision staff. For larger groups, please get in touch to discuss other options.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Unfortunately, many of the countries we offer projects in, do not yet have adequate accessible facilities.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Currently, we are unable to provide additional support for children with special educational needs.
