Costa Rica has become a lot more accessible with direct flights from London. It is surely one of the most exotic countries on earth, offering an abundance of wildlife, lush bush and rain forest, deserted tropical beaches, volcanoes and extremely hospitable local people. This 14 day tour is fantastic for Science students as they spend 6 days in Monteverde woking on various projects which help the environment and give them a better understanding of the Biology of Costa Rica.
Day 1: San Jose
Arrival transfer and hotel check in. Meeting about tour along with a welcome dinner.
Day 2: Monteverde - Trail Maintenance
Travel to Monteverde and get straight into your projects. First up work with a local guide to clean up the trails around the national park. This will help orient you to the area and prepare you for the days to come.
Days 3 & 4: Monteverde - Animal Footprint Project
Work with park guides to find, document and study different species within the park. Useful for tracking animal populations and making behavioral observations.
Day 5: Monteverde - Awareness Workshop
Hear a lecture about environmental sustainability. Work together on a group project to create and implement a way to apply the sustainable measures learned.
Day 6: Monteverde: Orchid Studies
Collect and replant different orchid species - working to replenish the forest. There are approximately 420 different species of Orchid in the forest. Learn about the different varieties, structures, natural habitats, fragrances and the consequences of losing a varietal.
Day 7: Santa Elena
Head into the community today to explore different trails with like-minded students from the local school. Take part in a series of social activities and group projects with the Costa Rican students.
Day 8: Arenal
On arrival into Arenal enjoy a hike around the Volcano, taking in the amazing views and looking at the process of regeneration since the last lava flow. Enjoy the local Hot Springs in the afternoon.
Day 9: Arenal
Half day adventure to La Fortuna Waterfall - go for a swim and a hike around the protected area.
Day 10: Manuel Antonio
Its a long drive today with plenty of stops. On arrival relax at the hotel until dinner
Day 11: Manuel Antonio
Today we hike through the National Park which is filled with all kinds of flora and fauna - capuchin monkeys. raccoons and many species of birds. Later go for a swim in the Pacific Ocean.
Day 12: Manuel Antonio
Day at leisure
Day 13: San Jose
Return to the city for a guided tour.
Day 14: Depart for the UK
