Why should you consider Childcare & Community in Morocco with Projects Abroad for
your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes which are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised, we realise that each school has its own goals and interests, the students their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary which reflects their values and which allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.

Example Itineraries
Days 1 & 2
Arrival at Rabat-Sale International Airport, where the group will be met by members of the Projects Abroad team and taken back to the guesthouse in the central district of Rabat.
After settling in, the local team will lead a thorough induction on the project aims, expectations, safety and Moroccan culture.
They will lead the group on a walk around the medina, familiarising everyone with their local area and what day-to-day life looks like in the hectic city. The group will also visit the school setting and get a feel for the environment. Finally, the group will make sure it is ready for starting work the following day.
Days 3 to 6
During the day time, the group will focus on placement work. They will learn how the setting works, meet the local staff and children and slowly start to participate in activities with the children.
Over the course of the first week, they will start to take more responsibility for planning and leading activities. At the end of each session, we will reflect on the successes and challenges of each day and plan for the following day.
Usually, the bulk of work with the children will be in the morning, leaving the afternoon to work on the improvement project. The group will usually be split into smaller teams with different responsibilities and over the course of the first-week experience each of the different roles. Depending on the nature of the project, this might include cleaning, painting, decoration, mending equipment or groundwork.
During this week, additional activities will be arranged for the evenings which will include traditional music and dance shows, quiz nights and cooking lessons.
Days 7 – 9
Marrakesh, the magical red city, is a walled medieval city with mosques dating back 1000 years.
The group will travel by bus to Marrakesh, stopping for snacks and sightseeing along the way. It is a four-hour drive and on arrival, the group will check in at their hotel and, once refreshed, start on an orientation around the town.
The weekend will be about relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere of Marrakesh which is at once hectic and tranquil. Students will explore the squares and ancient buildings, jostle in the marketplaces and relax on floor cushions with a mint tea watching the world go by.
After a relaxing couple of days embracing the history of the Berber Empire and the Moors, the group will drive back to Rabat and spend the afternoon resting or shopping and getting ready for the resumption of activities the following day.
Days 9 to 13
Students will pick up their work in the childcare setting, continuing in the constructive educational work and taking more responsibility and organising more ambitious activities such as sports days or dance routines.
The renovation work will be developing nicely and will be completed by day 13. To keep the energy levels high, we will usually introduce some half days in this second week, taking students to sites reflecting the influence of Islamic and French colonial architecture and planning, Rabat is a fantastic city to wander around and the students will find plenty to admire and enjoy.
Evening activities will continue with a variety of fun and educational themes.
Day 13 is usually a farewell to the setting at which they have worked, a party for the children and the chance for photographs.
Day 14 is for packing, a last-minute souvenir hunt around the shops and for our staff to get the group to the airport armed with many tales to tell their family on their return.

Who are Projects Abroad?
Projects Abroad has been working in Morocco for 15 years, employing many local staff and, through the efforts of these staff members and student volunteers, achieved much in community development projects, early years nurturing and education.
The Childcare & Community project in Morocco has students working in a primary school in the capital city of Rabat. The programme usually has three components:
Education – students work with the children in small and larger groups, helping to break down local teacher:student ratios, reinforcing learning and adding imagination and energy to the day through organising sports or creative activities
Physical Improvement – having a group of students at a setting give us the workforce and resources to renovate a part of the setting. This might include landscaping, clearing and painting buildings or improving aplayground. The students feel a sense of price in teamwork and contribution, the setting benefits, being a safer and more engaging place for the children.
Cultural Immersion – we organise a wide range of activities which give the students a further insight into Moroccan life and culture. These activities will include cooking lessons, music and dance shows, walks around the spice markets and the walled city, and, over the weekend, a trip to magical Marrakesh. We want students to gain a broad perspective on the country’s unique nature and way of life.
The group will stay in a guesthouse near the bustling medina in the heart of the city, traveling by minibus to work each day while using the guesthouse as a base for visiting the mosques and markets or just watching life go by in this charismatic and ever fascinating city.
