Why should you consider Childcare & Community in Ghana with Projects Abroad for
your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Join our Childcare and Community Programme in Ghana and support the work of local teachers and caregivers at disadvantaged schools and care centres in Ghana.
Due to a lack of funding, many schools in Ghana lack the proper playgrounds and learning materials. This prevents teachers from running classes and for children to learn and play.
With your help, we can work towards improving both early childhood development, and the children’s learning environments.
During this trip, you will also become immersed in Ghanaian culture and explore some of the country's most popular tourist sites.

Example Itineraries
Day 1
On arrival day, a Projects Abroad staff member will be waiting to collect your group from Accra Airport (ACC).
Walking through the airport, you will see a Projects Abroad staff member waiting for you. They are easy to spot because they’re by the airport exit holding a sign.
You will then be taken by minibus to your accommodation in Akuapem Hills, where you will have time to unpack and rest for a short while.
After you have settled in, you are given culture awareness training. This gives all volunteers an insight into the Ghanaian culture customs, and traditions. You’ll then be shown the local area and then taken to your placement to get to know the facilities, meet placement staff, and discuss expectations and work schedules.
Days 2 to 6
Working at a small community care centre or school, you will aim to promote learning and early childhood development through play.
You will do this by taking on activities such as:
> Informal classroom teaching
> Reading books, singing songs, and role-playing to promote language skills
> Encourage creativity through arts and crafts sessions
> Teach the children about good hygiene through handwashing and teeth brushing
> Create teaching materials like posters and flashcards
In the afternoons, your group will also work to improve the children’s learning environment through renovations. You will get stuck into activities such as building desks painting rooms or digging flower beds.
Day 7 - Saturday
Ghana, and West Africa more widely, has a tragic past of colonialism and slavery. Many relics of this past remain today giving you the chance to explore the country's dark but important history.
Starting early, you’ll begin your journey to Cape Coast, a beautiful coastal city. It will take just over four hours to arrive!
When you get there, you’ll be able to visit the nearby castle and its museum. You will also learn about the city’s fishing industry and relax on its stunning beaches.
Day 8 - Sunday
Today, you will delve deep into the wilder side of Ghana with a trip to the dense rainforest of Kakum National Park.
The highlight of this visit is walking through the treetops on a canopy walk. Learn all about the flourishing flora and fauna that exists in Ghana while you spot birds and simply enjoy the peace of being immersed in this beautiful natural environment.
Days 9 to 13
In your first week, you took time to get to know the children at the school, learning more about their individual needs and developing a strong rapport with them. You’ll continue contributing to their education as the second week commences by planning lessons with the help of the classroom teacher and implementing them as your confidence grows.
Your renovation work will also come together, providing students with better spaces to learn, grow, and practice a variety of skills.
On day 13, there will be a farewell party where you can celebrate your time in Ghana with the staff and children at your placement school. This is an opportunity to make some final memories and to take photographs!
Day 14
It’s been an amazing journey for you and your group. You’ve developed a deep connection with Ghana and the local community. The classroom resources and renovations you have worked on during this trip will be appreciated for years to come.
The children will always remember the time and attention you gave to them. As you leave Ghana, know that you are always welcome back!

Take part in a drum circle, dance lesson, Twi language lesson, cooking class and more!
There will also be time to explore local arts and crafts markets and visit the stunning Aburi Botanical Gardens.
In the afternoons, your group will work to improve local schools through small renovation projects. By building desks, painting rooms, or digging flower beds, you will help create inspiring and usable spaces for both staff and students where the children can learn, explore, and grow.

Who are Projects Abroad?
Why should you consider 'Giraffe and Lion Conservation in Kenya' with Projects Abroad for your next School Trip or Educational Visit?
Projects Abroad arranges overseas service and internship programmes which are challenging, meaningful, educational and safe.
We have been taking students overseas since 1992 and work in over 20 developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key to our work is the dedicated in-country staff whose diverse skill sets, local knowledge and love of their community allow us to develop relevant, immersive and worthwhile schedules for school trips which give the students responsibility and teach them to see the world through a different lens.
We offer programmes in community development, conservation, construction, education, sports, empowerment, human rights and healthcare among many others. These projects are designed to contribute towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, broadening the student experience to see the contribution of a few going towards a movement for global change.
All school trips are individualised. We realise that each school has its own goals and interests, and the students have their own passions. We work with the school to develop a tailored itinerary which reflects their values and allows the students to make a connection with the community in which they serve.
