York is a fantastic city for school trips promising to engage and inspire students of all ages. Famous for the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter or the York Minster, York is home to one of the largest Cathedrals in Northern Europe. Inside this magnificent structure, the walls are adorned with carved stone, bright tiles and intricately decorated stained glass panels, with stretching high ceilings that seem to meet the sky itself. Underneath the Minster is a fantastic museum housed in the chambers beneath the structure with historical artefacts from Viking and Roman periods and the remains of a Roman barracks once built on the site.
The Minster is not the only attraction unique to York, take your students on a stroll through the Shambles, where the crooked houses across the road appear to lean in and whisper secrets of York's past to one another, this fantastic street is rumoured to be the inspiration behind JK Rowling's Diagon Alley, promising to prove popular with your group.
Step back in time through the industrial revolution and the invention of the steam train at the National Railway Museum, where students can learn the historic role of our railways, step foot inside the iconic Japanese Bullet train and peer into the Royal carriages owned and used by Queen Victoria and King Edward VII's as well as the oldest preserved carriage in Europe belonging to Queen Adelaide built in 1842.
Groups can also visit a replica Victorian street and the original prison cells housed in the castle at York's Castle Museum.
York offers an abundance of museums, galleries, attractions and experiences to inspire and amaze students of all ages.
