Alpha Dome is a mobile planetarium that provides an exciting and imaginative way of presenting key concepts in science to school children. Whether it be a trip through the Solar System, or how we might search for alien life, our shows will help children learn scientific concepts in an engaging
Alpha Dome’s 360 degree shows allow Children to visit other planets without leaving the classroom! Of course this is exciting for the Children, but more importantly teaches them about science and sparks their interest in the field of science and technology.
Our lead presenter, Paul, has been a lifelong astronomy enthusiast, undertaking cosmology and astronomy OU courses as well being a member of the British Astronomical Association. Having met inspirational people from the world of science, such as the late Sir Patrick Moore, Professor Stephen Hawking and cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, he aims to inspire the next generation to learn about science.
We have developed our shows with content suitable for KS1 to KS3 science.
Why are Alpha Dome a great choice for bringing fun workshops into your school?
What activities are available during group visits?
The shows consist of a 10 to 15 minute presenter led introduction to astronomy and space travel, followed by a 23 minute film. This could be a trip through the Solar System looking at how we might live on other planets, or how we might search for alien life.
The introduction can be tailored to specific needs. For example, one school was studying water so the introduction concentrated on where water can be found in space, different states of water, and how water is supplied, re-cycled on the International Space Station.
What size groups do you cater for?
We have 2 size domes. The 5 meter dome can accommodate around 30 year 1 or 2, or 20 year 6. The 6 meter dome will accommodate 30 year 6 or 7.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Unfortunately due to the design of the domes there is no wheelchair access.
