The Wingate Centre is a fantastic place where children are able to holiday, learn and explore in a safe and beautiful setting. We cater for children and young adults of all abilities but our extensive facilities are particularly suitable for visitors with disabilities.
Our friendly and helpful staff pride themselves on providing the facilities, knowledge and experience to help every child have the chance to have a fun-filled holiday and to learn in a safe environment.
Why are The Wingate Centre great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
Being in a central location, surrounded by three acres of stunning Cheshire countryside, The Wingate Centre has the best of two worlds: the perfect place for an action-packed holiday, with on-site activities available or a variety of exciting attractions nearby, or a place to chill out and relax.
Our grounds are safe and accessible and have a variety of play areas for all ages and abilities as well as quiet zones where pupils can enjoy our stunning scenery. Our accommodation bright and airy and is extensive; we can sleep up to 48 people in twin-bedded or triple rooms, over two self-contained floors, with each floor having its' own kitchenette and lounge.
We also have a multi-purpose recreation hall which is equipped with a large drop-down screen which can be used for film nights or Wii and we have a sound system, disco lights, a pool table, table tennis, table football and a variety of books and toys. It can also be used for craft and learning activities, with tables and chairs available for small or large groups. There are two large accessible toilets off the hall as well as a self-contained kitchen.
We have a large, wheelchair-accessible, sensory room including bubble tubes, sensory rain cloud and a mobile hoist. We also have a mobile sensory trolley available.
For children with food intolerances, or medical problems, our kitchen can provide freshly-cooked food to cater for all needs and tastes. We provide breakfast, a packed lunch and a two-course evening meal each day, meaning that you are able to visit places knowing that food is not an problem or an added expense.
Our accommodation is spread across 2 floors and consists mostly of twin-bedded rooms with pressure-relief mattresses. We also have profile beds, hoists and bed surrounds if needed. All our toilet and washing facilities are fully-accessible.
What activities are available during group visits?
We have a 7000 sq ft gymnasium, equipped with 3 trampolines, competition-size soft-sprung floor, ball pool, balance & beams and more. We have a flat-bed trampoline, with hoist and sensory tent, for rebound therapy and fitness. We offer a variety of gym-based activities, group games and craft sessions as well as disability awareness lessons, drama workshops and Forest School.
What size groups do you cater for?
We cater for all group sizes, from 8 to 48!
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
We have a large dining room and a recreation hall that can be used for learning, fun or craft activities, as well as extensive grounds with a covered area if the weather is poor.
Is there first aid on site?
Yes. Most of our staff are First Aid trained. We have a defib on-site.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
All of our facilities are suitable for disabled visitors and we can cater for profoundly disabled children right through to children with no additional needs - everyone is welcome. As such all our corridors are wheelchair-friendly and we have a lift. We have a variety of hoists, beds, toileting and washing facilities including a rise and fall bath, sluice rooms, a cosi-i-mat disability toilet and a tracking hoist. We also have a wheelchair roundabout and outdoor sensory trail as well as a fully equipped sensory room. Our experienced gym coaches are trained to deliver rebound therapy and can provide tailored sessions to improve mobility, core strength and communication and independence skills.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes. We are one of the biggest holiday centres for children with disabilities in the UK. Our residential accommodation is arranged on two floors, each one can be self-contained with its own: •bedrooms •bathrooms •lounge •kitchenette •bathing and toilet facilities. We ensure that each group, however small, is given its own floor. We do not mix groups together (for your security and care needs). We have a vast array of disability equipment to make your stay as comfortable as possible
