Whilst at Hindleap your young people will will be encouraged to be independent and make decisions for themselves, from what to wear that day to their participation in an activity. The more the children challenge themselves the more benefits they will leave Hindleap with.
Each year we have over 10,00 young people come to Hindleap and they always say their time at Hindleap has helped build their confidence, resilience and positive relationships with their classmates and teachers.
Hindleap’s activities are delivered by our experienced, qualified and full-time instructor staff team. Most of these activities take place within 300 acres of private woodland and are accessible through paths and tracks.
Over the past eight years, children, young people, Teachers and Youth Workers have completed questionnaires so that we can evaluate the impact of our work. We have found a statistically significant increase in children and young people’s resilience, confidence and relationship skills following a residential or day visit to the centre.
This is an hour session at the end of your residential, where one instructor per group, will use a variety of reviewing techniques/games to promote reflection on their experiences, goals, emotions and skills learnt during their residential, focusing on how they can continue to use those skills outside of Hindleap.
We offer a range of environmental sessions, each with its own style whether it be storytelling, or exploring your senses, we hope to inspire learning and a respect for nature and wildlife during your trip but also to take into everyday life.
Learn how to build a basic shelter to keep you warm and dry. Then have a go at lighting a fire using a traditional flint and steel, or a bow drill to create fire via friction. Then the challenge is keeping it going for long enough to toast marshmallows on!
Our bush craft sessions help children and young people learn practical outdoors skills, as well as how to work together in small team. Problem solving and being open to different ways of getting to a goal are crucial.
Our instructors constantly monitor children and young people when working with fire.
Try your hand at canoeing, stand-up paddle-boarding and kayaking, at a beautiful local reservoir. Our water sports sessions improve young people’s communication and co-operation skills, and allow them to enjoy the natural environment.
All activities start with training from our qualified team of water-sport instructors, who then make sure young people are kept safe while they’re on the water.
We use our own minibuses to take young people to and from the centre.
Hindleap Warren is a fully inclusive centre. We’ve been working with children and young people with additional needs for over 40 years. We support them to achieve personal goals, have incredible experiences and spend time away from home in a different living environment.
Each year, over 35 organisations bring young people with additional needs to stay with us.
In small teams of 12 to 15, young people are introduced to a series of challenges. Each challenge is presented by the Hindleap instructor, with the rules and boundaries clearly explained.
The group must first discuss how they will approach the task, which highlights the importance of good communication and understanding differing opinions and perspectives. The group will then attempt the challenge utilising both physical and mental skills. The task will expose and develop varying team dynamics and leadership styles: who are the activists, theorists, reflectors and pragmatists within the group?
This activity is at the core of what Hindleap delivers and illustrates what good outdoor education should look like. It’s fun, engaging, rewarding and developmental.
Hindleap has a brilliant staff team who are trained to work with all ages and abilities, we work with young people with special education needs on a daily basis and our operations managers will be happy to talk over your group requirements and provide reassurance that we are the right centre for you.
Hindleap works with over 10,000 children and young people every year, supporting and challenging them to be the best they can be.
We provide residential opportunities for children and young people from schools, youth groups and organisations that work with young people with additional needs.
Through a combination of outdoor activities and the inherent benefits of attending a residential centre, young people are given the opportunity to develop their social and emotional capabilities.
A trip to Hindleap offers young people the chance to improve their confidence, develop leadership skills, become more determined, and create positive relationships with their peers.
Hindleap Warren offers a wide range outdoor adventurous activities, including; high ropes courses, bushcraft, canoeing & kayaking, rock climbing, obstacle course and team building challenges. Our activity programming team will work with your organisation to build a bespoke course, working towards the desired outcomes for the trip.
Hindleap Warren holds the Gold Standard by AHOEC, is AALA registered, LOTC certified and holds the AAIAC Adventure mark.
