Why book 'Romans School Trips' for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Led by our experiential education team, your children will learn about many different aspects of Roman Britain in a uniquely exciting and playful way. From becoming legionaries in the Roman army and marching across Britain in the name of the emperor, to developing their knowledge of military strategies by earning their way up the army ranks.

On a Celtic visit, experience elements of Iron Age life and culture in our authentic roundhouse where the children will work hard to please the tribal leaders and win promotion for themselves.

And be prepared to rise up against the occupying Romans, alongside Queen Boudicca!

All programs at Ufton History can be tailored towards the needs of your school visit and our team can guide you through the options available. For example, you may choose for a session to begin with preparing for the threat of a Roman invasion, meeting a Roman citizen and discovering Roman customs and inventions and concluding with a lively re-enactment of the story of Boudicca.

What activities are available during group visits?

Learn key skills for life as a Roman legionary, such as Military manoeuvres and survival skills
Call upon Jupiter to bring us good fortune and learn more of Roman beliefs. We have a range of other Roman activities available, that you can choose when booking. Hail Caesar! As part of a Celtic visit you might train as a Celtic warrior, spin, weave and wattle to provide for your family, or even fight in the famous Boudicca's Revolt!

Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?

Romans

From the moment you arrive on an Ufton Roman school trip you will be immersed in the stories and lives of Roman Britain We have found that by keeping a story running through your time with us children (and adults) have fun, and remember much more of what they have learnt. We will launch your story with a dramatic proclamation from a scroll, which will give your children a historical name, place them in history and give them a purpose for their visit. From that moment you will join the garrison at Calleva Atrebatun, living and fighting as Roman soldiers for the glory of the Empire!

Celts

From the moment you arrive at Ufton you will be immersed in the stories and lives of Iron Age Britain. From that moment you will live and work as members of the Atrebates tribe as we work, play and clash with the occupying Romans .

What size groups do you cater for?

From 20 to 120 pupils

Is there first aid on site?

Yes, all our teachers are first aid qualified. However, all schools are expected to bring a first aid trained member of staff to administer first aid to their pupils.

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?

Yes, we have disabled facilities in the house, tithe barn and cabin site, including a fully equipped disabled cabin and bathroom.

Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Yes we can. Please let us know before your residential should children need any additional assistance.
