Maths Workshops

The Problem Solving Company

School Workshop

trip icon Bringing us into your school has the pupils "buzzing" for mathematics in the weeks following our visit. Our workshops demonstrate to pupils (and teachers) that mathematics is a subject of discovery and exploration and not just a subject of rote learning full of processes. We leave the pupils with a great feeling of satisfactions and success, and as the pupils leave the workshops we often hear the words -maths is great, or -I didn't realise we were doing maths! which hopefully inspires them to approach maths with a new direction in the future.

By bringing the workshops to you, your pupils will get the most out of the day since there is no need for the school to arrange travel to another location. We bring a large quantity of equipment and resources to have your pupils engaged from the start of the school day all the way until the bell goes to finish the day. This way your schools gets the most out of it and saves a large amount on not having to pay for travel.

Where we travel to

We can visit your school in: All UK Regions

What activities are available during this school workshop?

We have a different activity for each year group, covering a variety of topics such as co-ordinates, shape, area, number, logic and reasoning. All of the activities are age appropriate for each year group and also encourage skills such as perseverance, discussion and justification.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

green tick Maths

Logic and Problem Solving Fractions Measurement Geometry Shape Statistics Ratio and proportion Algebra Graphs and data

The Problem Solving Company Workshops support the National Curriculum by helping students grow in confidence with a wide selection of Maths hands on enrichment activities.

What size groups do we cater for?

We work with classes of approximately 30 at a time and run sessions which are between 30 mins to an 1 hour long. This enables us to work around your normal school day and to allow us to see all classes from a 1 form entry primary school in 1 day.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Due to the hands on nature of our activities, those children with Special Educational Needs will find themselves able to access our activities with great success. Class teachers are often apprehensive about how those pupils will be able to input into the workshops but are quickly put at ease when they see how easily they take to the hands on and visual challenges. Our Maths workshops are fantastic for SEN students of all abilities, we can tailor our activity workshop to suit your needs. The activities are hands on and large so are great visually for the students to see and solve.

Who are The Problem Solving Company?

We are The Problem Solving Company and we travel nationwide delivering maths workshops in schools. As a company, we have developed a series of activities to encourage core skills and fundamental thinking in mathematics. We have broken through the "boring" stigma attached to mathematics through play, discussion and team work. Pupils are presented with a series of hands on challenges which require reasoning, logic and trial and error to get them to their solution whilst at the same time using the correct mathematical terminology and hitting curriculum links.
