School Trips at RSPB Minsmere
RSPB Minsmere is an internationally important nature reserve at the heart of Suffolk’s ‘wild coast’, with a wide variety of habitats providing homes to thousands of species. It is one of the most visited nature reserves in the country, providing the perfect case study of how humans can co-exist with nature. Our Wild Zone has been specially designed for school visits with a range of educational facilities, including superbly-equipped classrooms in the Discovery Centre.
At Minsmere, our Schools on Reserves programme has been designed to bring learning to life, with a series of exciting, curriculum-linked hands’ on activities.
There’s something for all ages and abilities from Early Years through primary to specification linked sessions for KS3, KS4 and post-16 students. All sessions are led by our professional learning staff.
Explore our habitats, species and seasons.
Why are RSPB great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
Our Schools on Reserves programmes hold the LOTC Quality Badge so you can have confidence in booking your trip.
Research shows that young people benefit greatly from being outside where they can experience nature and learn about it firsthand. We strongly support this at the RSPB, and we’re here to get young people out experiencing the natural world and to help you meet your curriculum needs. We will get your students enjoying and learning about wildlife, where it lives and what we can do to help.
We have a range of habitats including a specifically designed pond dipping platform, purpose-built minibeast areas, access to our beautiful dynamic coastline and a teaching hide overlooking the Scrape, our famous wetland. Children can freely and safely explore all or any of these areas to get the most out of their visit.
For older students we have specialist surveying equipment to study the wide range of habitats at Minsmere. This combined with the enthusiasm and knowledge from our Learning team will ensure it will be a visit to remember.
