All of our activities are physically active and we reflect on the importance of moving more for wellbeing. We introduce young people to new activities, draw links to where those interests can be continued at home, and we can also deliver specific curriculum units, such as GCSE PE or OCR L2 Nationals.
Our programmes develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamworking and critical thinking skills. We apply the "Feelgood 6" tools to help us to lead happier and more successful lives.
In our bushcraft area we look at the ways that fires can be created, and we build dens and shelters in the woodland. We'll link the activities to your chosen aims and outcomes and mastery of the environment!
We are set amongst the mountains, rivers, valleys and beaches of the Snowdonia National Park, and our highly qualified staff can help you achieve all kinds of fieldstudy activities. Programmes and activity delivery can be tailored to include sampling, coastal ecology, geology, rivers, sustainability, glaciation, beaches, map work, habitats and so on.
A reflective approach to activity sessions enables young people to become confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. They'll develop relationships, make decisions and take responsibility for their own experience; we'll translate those experiences in to lessons for life.
We have experience of delivering a wide range of activities and learning opportunities to groups with additional needs. These have included physical impairments, sensory impairments, learning difficulties (ADHD, ASD, MLD, SLD, PMLD, and more), challenging behaviour, acquired brain injuries and life limiting illnesses. Our practitioners have received training on how to communicate and encourage personal and social development for all abilities.
Plas Gwynant Outdoor Education Centre is proudly part of Sandwell Residential Education Service (SRES). The team have been delivering adventurous school and group programmes in the Snowdonia National Park since 1958.
At SRES we deliver a unique range of transferable learning experiences through outdoor exploration, adventure, and creative arts. Our practitioners are skilled at delivering appropriately challenging, memorable experiences, and addressing a wide range of learning outcomes.
Programmes can be fully integrated with school curriculum and ethos, inclusive, designed to meet students' specific learning needs and planned so that learning is reinforced and embedded back at school.
SRES centres are small but perfectly formed - sole occupancy is available at Plas Gwynant so it truly becomes the participants' home for their visit. Located at the foot of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in North Wales, the centre is perfectly situated for a wide range of adventurous outdoor activities on both land and water.
Our very experienced and highly qualified staff are committed to providing quality residential outdoor and adventurous educational programmes, and will ensure that participants and staff alike have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
