trip icon Based in North Devon on the edge of the Taw and Torridge Estuary, Skern Lodge is ideally located in a beautiful part of the country. With both Exmoor and Dartmoor not far away, Westward Ho! beach within walking distance and being one of the few centres that is based in an UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Programmes are designed with the perfect balance of on-site and off site activities that provide challenging and exciting opportunities to undertake a wide range of adventurous experiences.

Learning and development is behind everything we do, both for our clients and staff. Pupils are enriched in a fun, supported environment that allows each individual to shine.

Our clients return year after year, telling us it's because of the great customer care provided by the whole staff team throughout their stay that makes their residential experience a real enriching opportunity for their pupils.

GCSE, A Level Field Work: Hydrology, Coastal Zone Processes and Geomorphology, Sand Dunes, Salt Marsh Ecosystems, Rocky Shore, Rural and Urban Settlements, Re-branding and rural diversification, Crowded Coasts.

Key stage 2: Seashore Trails, Viking trail, Dark Skies, Camp Craft.

With the tidal waters of the Taw and Torridge Estuary on our doorstep, we are ideally located for a great watersports experience. Westward Ho! beach offers a great venue for surfing and surf skiing, whilst the estuary and river provide ideal opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, rafting, raft building and powerboating. Progressive sessions are available both in kayaking and surfing.

Whether it's KS2 or A level Skern Lodge can provide the ideal field trip for your pupils. Located within the UNESCO Biosphere, Skern uses the local resources of Braunton Burows, Exmoor, Dartmoor and Westward Ho! to provide perfect locations for students to undertake their Independent Investigations and research.


What size groups do we cater for?

We have four different accommodation blocks and have beds for 278 guests.

Of course all group sizes vary but our smallest group size is 6 and we do take several year groups that take over the whole centre.

On-site classroom facilities?

We have a number of classrooms and meeting rooms with white boards and projectors available.

Is there first aid on site?

Instructional staff have a first aid qualification.

Access for visitors with disabilities

Yes, just let us know your requirements and what adjustments can be made.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Yes We certainly can. Please use the form below to let us know your group's specific SEN requirements and we will get back to you with more information on how we can tailor our learning experience for your children.


Anything else?

This is a centre with real adventure offering surfing,body boarding and surf skiing, power boating, kayaking and rafting on the River Torridge, climbing and abseiling within the beautiful North Devon countryside. Staff are highly skilled and experienced and ensure that every individual gains the most from their experience.

Who are Skern Lodge?

We offer fun, educational and developmental programmes for children from 4 - 18 years.

Everyone at Skern Lodge strives to provide excellence throughout all our activities, courses and services. We are adventure experts, who know how to balance encouragement and reassurance to ensure all our guests' experience is thoroughly enjoyable.

Our courses are designed with you to meet your needs and requirements, and with support from our friendly, knowledgeable team you can be assured your trip with run smoothly and safely.

Either visit for the day or stay residentially from 1 - 7 nights, subject to availability.

Skern Lodge offers fun activity courses, educational and developmental courses and field study courses from KS2 - A Level.
