As a former Dep Head teacher with over 35 ears experience in Education Pep has a wealth of personal experience upon which he can call upon.
Pep has also worked alongside people with multiple addictions and has a story of his own personal recovery from alcohol addiction.
Pep is able to demonstrate perfectly how reading, writing and oracy can have a profound positive effect on our well-being, confidence and personal relationships.
He can use various genres to get his point across: poetry, play-scripts, story writing, storytelling and journaling.
Pep’s whole focus is helping children to raise their own self-esteem and self-worth.
As a child himself he was the victim of bullying. He is a great advocate of self-actualisation and encourages young people to look within themselves to find the answers to any problems that they may be experiencing.
He talks about teamwork, cooperation, resilience and the importance of collaborating with likeminded people; focusing on a common goal.
He is a great supporter of how having both a healthy mind and body can enhance our well-being.
Critical thinking, posing difficult questions and making the comfortable slightly uncomfortable are great ways of bringing about long-lasting change.
Pep is someone who believes that ’Emotional Intelligence’ should be taught as a stand-alone curriculum subject in all schools. He likes to use the acronym, STAR: as an ingredient for a truly wonderful life: Support; Trust, Acceptance and Respect.
Pep the Poet is a mental health advocate who uses his experience working with people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to create awareness and understanding of mental health challenges.
Pep uses a variety of tools to connect with a wide audience, including spoken word poetry and signed communication. Signing can be a powerful tool for self-expression, and Pep’s ability to teach basic signing can empower people who may not be comfortable with verbal communication.
Peps creative approach to mental health awareness makes it more engaging and accessible, especially for younger audiences or those who find traditional resources intimidating. By sharing his experiences and the challenges faced by people with SEND, Pep fosters empathy and encourages people to address their own mental health struggles.
