Enrich and elevate the Physical Education curriculum with Outdoor Adventurous Activities in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
Being out in nature is important for our well-being. Doing physical activity through outdoor adventure motivates, inspires, helps to develop fitness and promotes a healthy active lifestyle.
We only use real adventurous activities, giving each student a true outdoor experience in nature. We offer a variety of activities such as; Gorge Walking (Ghyll Scrambling), Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Mountain Hiking, Bushcraft, Archery, Coastal Rock Traversing and Problem Solving Activities.
Our activities encourage pupils to communicate and collaborate effectively with each other with some activities also providing friendly competition. Pupils will work together in teams, solving problems and building relationships and trust.
Our skilled tutors encourage pupils to review their experiences, helping them to understand how to evaluate and recognise their success. These skills can be used back in the classroom for evaluating performance both in Physical Education and across all other subjects.
Outdoor Adventure: An amazing opportunity for young people to develop their Personal, Social, Health and Economic education.
The very nature of Outdoor Adventurous Activities builds each individual's confidence, resilience and self-esteem, it teaches them skills of working within a team and communicating effectively as well as helping with their mental health and wellness.
Our outdoor activities are high impact delivering high learning.Through a variety of challenges and experiences, children will learn:
Learn the skills of Bushcraft whilst spending time out in nature.
Bushcraft allows groups to work together towards a common goal, helping them to develop their key communication and teamwork skills. Achieving challenging survival tasks out in nature allows individuals a real feeling of achievement and helps to build self-esteem.
Activities include foraging, shelter building, the use of tools to whittle feather sticks and prepare kindling for their campfire, and the use of traditional techniques for fire lighting, such as, friction fire lighting with flint and steel and using fire bows. Working together, cooking and baking are all part of the fun! Supervision and tuition is provided our expert instructors.
Students will learn how to be responsible for the natural environment and start to develop an understanding of how it can be preserved.
The Lake District provides a magical playground for Watersports!
Our watersports activities take place on magnificent lakes and rivers with jaw-dropping mountain vistas. They are great fun, providing loads of learning opportunities on the way!
Canoeing - The group will work together in either single Canadian canoes or rafts canoes to explore the many bays and Islands along the way. The journey will present challenges. The groups will learn to look after their own safety and each other's and will need to coordinate and communicate effectively with each other to complete the journey. There will be loads of fun and games along the way and a good chance of getting wet!
Raft Building - Teams will go head to head planning, designing, building and paddling a seaworthy raft. Working together and looking after the team's safety is essential in this task. Students will learn about cooperation and effective teamwork. Friendly competition and lots of splashing is highly likely!
Ghyll Scrambling or Gorge Walking - Though technically not a watersport this is still a very wet activity! Teams work together to scramble their way up a mountain stream, jumping and swimming in the crystal-clear water along the way. Teams will have to work together to safely complete the scramble. Comfort zones will be stretched whilst learning the value of risk management and effective communication. All whilst having the time of their lives!
Inspiring individuals to think, behave and work together in harmony.
Teams will be set different challenges and puzzles, some cognitive and some physical, which they have to try and complete. Guided by our experienced instructors, students will have the chance to explore and develop their key skills of communication, creative thinking and problem-solving.
Team building exercises create opportunities for individuals to develop their leadership and team cooperation skills and learn the importance of trust, delegation and respect for each other.
Each activity or exercise is reviewed in a fun and inclusive way allowing each individual to recognise their learning and apply it to their lives.
Yes, we can cater for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
