What activities are available during group visits?
The Wizard Walk is a one-hour walking tour, with plenty of stops for little legs. Whilst your class(es) wand-er the enchanted streets of York, they'll gasp, they'll laugh and they'll have a truly magical time. They'll also see many of the great sights of the city, from York's iconic Shambles, York Minster and St William's College.

Curriculum topics available: Story writing, Persuasive writing, Fairy tales Myths and Legends, Creative writing, Story telling.
Whilst not an educational tour, The Wizard Walk of York can be used a starting point for pupils to create their own magical stories, as the walk features tales of mystical creatures, spells and magic. There is also plenty of humour, creative wordplay and more jokes than you can shake a wand at! There is plenty of scope for imaginative fantasy writing, as we visit the cobbled streets and snickleways of this enchanting city, which could be lifted from the very pages of a fantasy novel.
Creative writing around York's rich history is also possible. We'll wand-er York's iconic Shambles, York Minster (exterior), St William's College, Bedern and more. We'll pass sights of historical interest too including the shrine of Margaret Clitheroe, a statue of Constantine and a Roman Column at York Minster.
What size groups do you cater for?
The Wizard can accommodate groups of up to around 45, but can often conjur up space of run multiple tours in the same day - or over several dates - to fit in around other attractions and experiences. He in no stranger to running up to 3 tours a day, and welcomes pupils and teachers from all over the world!
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
No, unfortunately The Wizard Walk is unable to offer indoor classroom facilities but, subject to good weather, can recommend local outdoor park and garden spaces. Reviewing food in a feature called Fantastic Feasts and Where to Find Them, he can also advise on suitable places to eat for large groups, and even local accommodation for schools to book. This wise wizard is full of ideas!
Is there first aid on site?
No, the Wizard Walk does not provide accredited first aid cover.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes absolutely, The Wizard Walk of York always strives to be fully accessible - and the route has been carefully planned to minimise any potential access issues. Please do ask any questions when enquiring about booking but changes that to the route can be made to bypass areas such as the bumpy cobbled streets of the narrow Shambles.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes, again please do get in touch to discuss any specific requirements but the Wizard will do all he can to make the tour accessible and enjoyable for all.
The Wizard guide regularly welcomes neurodivergent children on the tours, and can advise on any potential moments that may cause sudden surprise. Full details of the route can be provided, as well as information on toilet stops along the way.
