Why book
'Pirates Day' with Off the Page
Our Key Stage 1 workshop gives children a full day to enjoy pirate activities. A loose narrative ties the day together – our captain stole a ship, and he needs a crew. The children can hone their skills at a pirate boot camp and help hunt hidden treasure.

What activities are available during this educational workshop?
In the morning, children can free-flow between workstations representing different shipboard activities. The workstations may include:
• Drawing treasure maps and making ink
• Making eye patches
• Creating pirate flags
• Engraving lucky doubloons
• Forming dice from clay
• Sewing hanging pockets
• Tying knots
• Playing Ship’s Doctor
• Making ship’s biscuits
In the afternoon, the children will take part in our “pirate boot camp” to hone their skills. If they perform well, they may help the captain hunt for hidden treasure!
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
Pirates
Geared toward Year 1 and 2 children, our day takes a light touch with the pirate topic. Children will be introduced to common pirate tropes including treasure maps and hidden chests. They will learn to swashbuckle and gain a thirst for adventure.
What size groups do you cater for?
We can work with three classes (up to 90 children) at one time, provided the school hall is large enough.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Please talk to us about your Special Educational Needs so we can accommodate your children’s requirements.
Who are Off the Page?
Off the Page presents history the way you wish you had learned it as a child. Our experienced teachers immerse your children in a topic to create an unforgettable learning experience. Our school workshops are no mere presentation with a bit of artefact handling – we build an atmosphere using authentic materials, allowing children to live the history through drama, roleplay and hands-on activities. The result is an understanding and enthusiasm for a topic that is difficult to create with books alone.
