Our Key Stage 1 workshop encompasses a full day and uses drama to recreate a seaside pier in your school hall. The children become both tourists and traders. We pair that roleplay with practical crafts the children can try for themselves. Crafts include making shell boxes, decorating ceramic mugs, creating seaside postcards and more.As the children work, they will hear about the history of seaside holidays. They will learn why the Victorians started visiting the seaside and how they got there.

What activities are available during this school workshop?
During our Seaside Day, we provide free-flow activities the children explore at their own pace. The workstations represent crafts and games you would find at the seaside. They could include:
• Making shell boxes
• Decorating ceramic mugs
• Creating cork ships
• Writing seaside postcards
• Printing train tickets
• Playing hook-a-duck
• Making pop-up puppets
• Coin rubbing (old coins)
• Staff training at the Pier Cafe

Railways Victorian Seaside
Join the Victorians on a train to the seaside! LOn our Seaside Day your children will explore the Victorian origins of seaside holidays, including how railways made the journey possible.
Historic Events Beyond Living Memory Workshop
Enjoy a visit to a Victorian pier without leaving your school hall. Our Seaside Day explores the Victorian origins of seaside holidays. The children can enjoy Victorian amusements such as hook-a-duck and bagatelle and be entertained by a Punch and Judy show. They can increase their knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Seaside including bathing machines and the clothes people wore. They can even make their own souvenirs! They can then compare a trip to a Victorian seaside with their experiences of visiting a seaside today.
What size groups do we cater for?
We can work with three classes (up to 90 children) at one time, provided the school hall is large enough.
