Why book
'The Suitcase Storyteller Workshop' with ReachOut Educate
''The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go.'' - Dr Seuss.
This year, World Book Day is officially on Thursday 7th March 2024, but our workshop can be booked all year round!
This workshop session is ideal for EYFS and KS1 children as it extends to more than sitting down and reading a book to the class; our character of 'The Suitcase Storyteller' brings the stories to life through the use of props, puppets and costumes!
After reading through the book, the class will then explore the text in an age appropriate and accessible way through music, dance and games; learning about the key features, themes and emotions.
These sessions are perfect as an introduction to reading, but also to expand the students learning and understanding of literature.
We have a range of books and themes to choice from to suit your learning objective. From traditional fairy-tales to superhero's; we have focused activities that can support your theme of choice.

What activities are available during this educational workshop?
Our standard Storytelling Workshop includes a bespoke mix of the following options. These can be discussed upon booking and pick based upon individual class need and suitability:
* A book/books to read and focus the session around. We have a range of texts we can cover, from The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, My Many Coloured Days by Dr Seuss, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and The Grimm's Fairy tales. Other books and authors are also available!
* Text exploration through a medium of your choice. We have a choice of music, dance, drama, singing or puppetry.
* Add-on activities such as art and crafts to explore the key themes featured in the given text.
Which Curriculum Subjects do you cater for?
English
Curriculum topics available: Story telling.
Our sessions are a great way to encourage a love of reading by bringing stories to life through engaging storytelling. Our Suitcase storyteller will introduce characters and story themes, introducing vocabulary and comprehension through in an accessible fun way.
What size groups do you cater for?
Group sizes will depend on the time frame and space you have available. We are very flexible and can create bespoke programmes for small class sizes, to the full school cohort. To get the most from your session, we usually suggest working with a class of 30 students with the session lasting 1.5 hours; this allows time for any questions they might have and to allow ample time for all students to experience the mini museum fully. These sessions can be repeated with additional groups of students throughout the day.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes, we cater for children of all abilities and can adapt our sessions for full inclusivity.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes, we cater for children of all abilities and have a selection of practitioners with SEN experience.
We are also able to offer sessions that include Makaton signing.
Anything else?
Although we do have a framework for our sessions, we are always adaptable and very flexible with the delivery and content - allowing us to build a workshop completely suited to your needs and learning outcomes. We have a 'not one size fits all'' approach with any prospective school, group or club. If you need something specific for your school visit, just give us a call to chat about how we can help you!
